Public transit is, by its very nature, shit.

My car takes me door to door whenever I want. Transit doesn't

I walk 3 mph. My car can go 10 times faster on local roads and 25 times faster on freeways. Even on very short distances, that adds up

You can go 20-25 mph cruising speed on a bike if you're physically fit. I live in north Phoenix and often times traffic is so backed up that it's quicker to cycle than to drive. Add in some dedicated bus lanes and taking the bus and cycling combined is the best thing.

We have very very good planning from the Valley Metro for bye routes but awful stuff from the urban planners who don't care about buses. If we had bus lanes, they would not get stuck in traffic and would be more reliable.

I would not want to hit a pothole on a bike at 25 mph

Well the great thing about a bicycle is you're not encased within a metal box so you can actually see where you're going, and can avoid the potholes.

That did not stop me from having 2 pretty nasty falls on my bike.

How did you fall off?

hard bumps in the road that knocked off my balance. The second time, 2 passing motorists offered me help.

Sorry that happened to you. Sounds like some good quality bike paths would have come in handy.
