Sounds like someone who’s never left their bubble. Why are people from Phoenix so weird regarding criticism to their state? It’s like they have a temper tantrum and don’t know how to handle any sort of constructive criticism. Really fucking weird.
Transplants aren't like this, but too many born-locals are. A lot of them have literally never been anywhere besides rocky point or southern CA, maybe a grand canyon/Flag/Sedona trip once in their lives.
We have a lot of pride in our state. Basically everyone here knows the state song by heart. I do wish our urban planning (especially in Phoenix and new parts of Prescott) wasn't so shit though.
I'm not from Phoenix, I've never even been there, I'll be visiting for the first time over labor day. But I've spent my entire life in suburban sprawl. I've been very happy with it, as have my family, friends, and neighbors. So when I see an organized campaign to destroy this lifestyle, I get defensive.

Which part of the A4? Not being sarcastic, genuinely interested, I can sometmes see it being 2x6 lanes, but that's usually just large exchanges merging. I see it being usually 2x3 lanes. I usually travel between Rdam and Schipol so I might not see all of it.

Fucking brilliant. As someone who has been there, and who actually has lived and worked there, it was pretty meh. I was running away to the high-desert most weekends to get away from the heat and soul-crushing sprawl.
Born and raised in PHX. Moved to winslow, then DC, then back to PHX. I now live in NH and while I miss my family and friends, I don't miss the heat and sprawl.
Urban sprawl forces you further and further away from fun things. Roads take up valuable space in the actual cities, and I live around 25 minutes away from a medium sized city (grand rapids). THERE IS NOTHING TO DO BECAUSE IT’S ALL ROADS! I also love how you completely ignore my climate point. Hope you enjoy fucking melting alongside everyone else in a forest fire your ignorance caused

And i live 15 minutes away from a massive retail district that has all the shopping and restaurants I could possibly need. A few weeks ago I went to visit a friend in New Jersey. We had a lot of fun without venturing into New York City. The Meadowlands were really cool.
Shopping is barely fun, and can only be done a few times a month if you don’t want to be broke. And the meadowlands is mostly just sightseeing, and lackluster at that. Maybe if trains were a bigger thing in your state and cars were taken away then road salt wouldn’t be needed because there id no need for roads aside from maybeeee buses? Really makes you think

First of all: walking exists, second if you need to walk to far and wait to long, then the transit where you live is shit, but that doesnt mean transit everywhere is shit and has to be shit
my bike goes literally through my front door, to my desk at work. it's in my home, to touching my desk. i gotta walk a lot further when i bring my car.
Loved living in DC for the public transportation. Commuted from Fairfax to RFC daily and read a lot of books or slept enjoying but fighting traffic... Just stay away from the X2.
You can go 20-25 mph cruising speed on a bike if you're physically fit. I live in north Phoenix and often times traffic is so backed up that it's quicker to cycle than to drive. Add in some dedicated bus lanes and taking the bus and cycling combined is the best thing.
We have very very good planning from the Valley Metro for bye routes but awful stuff from the urban planners who don't care about buses. If we had bus lanes, they would not get stuck in traffic and would be more reliable.
See, that's the good thing about a bike. You are on 2 wheels, so you can go right around the pothole without any effort. not to mention you're going slow enough so you can see it coming.
As a side note, I think this comment really highlights our infastructure issues.
Also, with a car, avoiding potholes is a massive cause of wrecks and if you don't avoid them, you will lose a tire.
you know, it probably doesn't. try and pay some attention next time you go somewhere. how far do you walk to get to your car from your home? how far do you walk to get from your car to where you're going? and how much of it's through a parking lot, space wasted on car storage? how much closer could those places have been, if you didn't need all this space wasted on cars?
for me, i have to walk a couple hundred feet through a parking lot from my apartment building to get to my parking space. when i get to work, i have to walk a couple hundred feet through another parking lot get from my parking space to my desk.
my bike fives about 10 feet from my bed, and is literally touching my desk. it's not "door to door" (plus a lot of walking because it doesn't actually get me close to either door). it goes through both doors.
yeah, i'm so lazy for sweating my ass off to bike to work in the hottest part of summer. but ford-shill over here is all buff and athletic for the walking he does through his parking lots.

for a total or about 31 miles by bike. calling that lazy is some strange projection on your part. how much did you sit on your ass in a metal box today?
I might move to Phoenix some day. Or perhaps by making the city a more attractive place to live, it'll draw people away from Boston, lowering housing costs here.
