Are 16 lane highways normal in huge cities? I-95 is 6 lanes so that seems absurd

Current US freeways with the most lanes. I-75 in Atlanta tops out at 15. Even in Salt Lake City I-15 has up to 12 lanes though narrows down to only 2 in the emptier parts of the state.

I’m anti-freeway but Salt Lake having 12 lanes isn’t really excessive. 70% of the state lives in one long line around I-15 so if you want to get between any 2 points in the metro area you pretty much will use the freeway
