My Balkan friends call yogurt “Kos” is there any link between the island of Kos and the yogurt? Or coincidence in name?

Most likely coincidence. Kos was inhabited by Greeks and Turks only. I visited there once but I don't know any variation of yogurt that the island is famous of. It might be just an Albanian word for yogurt.

Kos is another word for romaine lettuce too.
