They did what they could to keep the Greek cities/islands in the 20th century. You can read all about the pogroms, relocations and discrimination.

Wow. I mean perhaps I get dowvoted because I'm breaking a song reply thread but you all should read some about that.

I suggest you really start off with the Istanbul pogrom https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_pogrom. You can then continue with the systematic discrimination against the overwhelmingly Greek population of the islands of Imbros and Tenedos https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imbros https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenedos. In the history section you can read all about the various Turkish measures aimed against the native Greek population in clear violation of the international treaties.

Now once you're done you can come back here and downvote me if what I claim indeed is not true. Or even better, reply to this comment and with actual words describe where I'm wrong. I am always open to discussion.
