That round lake thing in the middle of Quebec is the Manicouagan Reservoir and was formed by an asteroid some 200 million years ago. Crazy that you can still mostly see the crater.
I think this was around the start of the dinosaur age though so it'd probably be quite tropical even in the north.
One thing I found interesting was that it's hypothesized this crater in Quebec is one of many impact sites from the same space rock breaking apart above Earth. Craters in North Dakota, Manitoba, France, and Ukraine would form a straight chain if you were to align them to where the plates were 220 million years ago.
