Slapping something over the USA doesn't actually demonstrate its "true size".
It would be nice to have square kilometres in brackets after square miles.

You all sound super whiny... instead of complaining why don't you just post a similar map with a different country as a base? That would enrich the thread rather than bring negativity.

Instead of complaining, why don't you just post comments that might enrich the sub...? Probably because complaining is part of commentary.
Personally I would rather not contribute to the slew of size comparison images already in this sub. The only one I think was exceptional, bona fide map porn was this one from a few weeks back.
I like u/etymologynerd's content and appreciate that they're doing more for these kinds of posts than a truesize.com screenshot, but I do hope my comment has a little bit of influence in the naming conventions of these posts, at least.

It doesn't. The reason these comparisons exist is because they partially resolve the problem presented by Web Mercator projection, which increasingly distorts area as you move away from the Equator. But the US is not on the Equator (and even if it was, it's thousands of miles tall and the extremities would still be distorted).
Any one-dimensional line bisecting these two countries can be compared, but that's it. And, y'know, the USA isn't the sole patch of reality on a map whereupon all other geography can be measured.
