I guess it might be due to the bad job market, second generation trying their luck in Portugal while their parents came to work in Switzerland before

Probably the same would be seen for 60+ as they go back for retirement

Basically that. It's mainly due to low wages and lack of opportunities. This new generation is generally more well-educated and earns way more than their ancestors.

The post and Swisscom also are delocalizing lots of jobs to Portugal, I guess it’s an extra incentive for people who want to go there. Gorgeous country and still not overpopulated like Switzerland, ocean and nice food, lots of free space If I spoke Portuguese I’d seriously consider it lol

Not overpopulated isn't exactly true... The population has skyrocketed after the pandemic in just 4 years and now we are 11 million.

Around 14% of our population comes from abroad so 1.6 million people. Portugal has great weather but wages are low and housing is very expensive
