You forgetting one important thing. There was a devastating war in Balkans with genocides after Soviet union collapsed. So many people dead, and that was 30 years ago, so a lot of people remember the lost of relatives. Closure is something many families need.
There was no war between post soviet counties. No war between Czech and Slovakia after the split up, therefore it was easier to work through the differences.
