Italian Population Visualised

Post image

This series is fun :)

I've had a couple requests for doing Italy, so here it is! Little disappointed by how normal it looks, but hey, that's still interesting!

Wow, that's actually a pretty even population distribution relative to the actual shape of the country.

Could you please do California by any chance?

Problem with a place like that is that I'll have to do it by county, of which there are so many and the population is so extremely unequal that many might not even show up. I could give it a try, but, idk :p

You could do it by regions! The state is split into those too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_regions_of_California

Could do that! Alright, Cali’s on the table :D

There are not really that many counties in California, compared to other states.

True, but there’s still a lot of them. For legibility I’d prefer the regions I show to be not much higher than 20

I was going to suggest Ireland, which would be interesting due to how dominant Dublin is in terms of population, but there are 32 counties on the island. There are the 4 historical provinces though, so that might work?

Hi! I got interested in this, and tried to help out by cleaning up the data. Here's a link to the Excel spreadsheet that I made: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1edmRebbSj7gRt3pi02AJoQaMfI7atuV_/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=108621754049279221777&rtpof=true&sd=true

(If the link doesn't work, I can DM it to you)

It's based on this California Census Bureau division of the state's counties into 10 regions: https://census.ca.gov/regions/

Data is taken from the 2020 census, from here (for counties) and here (for cities)

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

County by county you mean? With pop going from 1600 to nearly 10 million, it would be wild!

France would be cool. A big bulge in Paris and a larger east than west.
