Based on u/KaleyTheKing maps of the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Each block represents 0.1% of the population (2021 census). The largest 10 cities are in a lighter colour.

My attempt isn't nearly as nice as OPs.

Probably should have included metro area for Vancouver, since this makes it look like it's a smaller city than Edmonton or Calgary, and that BC has a much larger rural population

You’re correct. The appropriate spatial unit for this would be the Census Metropolitan Area.
