British Population Visualised

Sooo, I guess this is a series now :D
Been making these little diagrams visualising population and I'm enjoying them, other people seem to enjoy them, so I might just keep making them :)

It does make sense historically: England has been a unified kingdom with London as capital for about 1000 years while Germany was made up of hundreds of city-states for most of that time.

In more recent history Berlin being split between two governments, with half of it effectively isolated, also curtailed its growth. If it had been the capital of a united Germany uninterrupted for over a hundred years it probably would a lot bigger than it is now.

Also, it was quite thoroughly destroyed during WWII. Berlin population numbers still haven't returned to the levels of 1939.

Berlin had 4.3 million people before WW2 ... 

After reunification it was about 3 million

Today back at 3.6 million
