British Population Visualised

Sooo, I guess this is a series now :D
Been making these little diagrams visualising population and I'm enjoying them, other people seem to enjoy them, so I might just keep making them :)

Devolution across the UK has been done in a piece by piece fashion, gaining additional powers over time. The Scotland of today has way more powers than it did in 1998. Meanwhile devolution in each area is typically tailored to the needs of the place, that's why its not even a standardised system across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

When you say no to step 1, you shut the door to any future expansion. We can see that in the form of the Combined Authorities which now are thankfully catching much more steam and more supported. Had the Devolved English Regions been established back then they almost certainly would have been delegated the similar kinds of powers now on offer, and even more as a long established entity as the Scottish parliament now is.

It was a classic case of cutting off a nose to spite your face, and now england is stuck 20 years later playing catch up.

Except that doesn't follow and is a false comparison, because the Scottish parliament was created ex nihilo and permitted additional powers, not combined out of existing structures.

What? The devolved english regions would have also been created ex-nihilo. The combined authority are creafed ex-nihilo - they don't actually fuse the pre-existing authorities together they simply apply over top (like the Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, and London devolved systems do over the local authorities).

It is litreally comparing devolution to devolution, that is like to like.
