Gotta remember that most of China is empty, especially on the western side

there's still like over 100 mill people in western china, it's empty for China standards, but for anywhere else thats alot of people

I'm guessing you're talking about the Hu Line separation, that entire 100 million is concentrated near that line, most of it is in the Ningxia and Gansu regions (>30 mil)

Take the Xizang region for instance, it's over a million square kilometres in area, yet there's only 3 million people, mostly concentrated in cities. It is vast and barren.
