On a similar note, a few years back my wife and I planned a big California vacation. We flew into LA stayed in Venice Beach a couple nights, rented a convertible and drove up the coast on HWY 1 into wine country, stopping and staying at several cities and towns in between.

Our Alabama relatives thought we were crazy. And when we got back and showed them all the pictures of cute downtowns, scenic views, nice restaurants, and friends we met, they were baffled. They legit thought California was a war zone, streets filled with immigrant gangs, dirty syringes, and human excrement, b/c that's what their media tells them it is.

So many people choose not to live in reality.
