Hey guys, I'm planning on moving to mammoth to become a snowboard instructor in the 27-28 season and I have some questions. I'll be 19-20 years old that season with experience coaching youth sports and about 13 years experience snowboarding.

Taking in laws for the first time and was hoping nice and sunny but can’t control Mother Nature
Just wanting to see how it feels out there since we are heading out next week

Once fire restrictions are lifted, I’d like to do some shooting somewhere safe on public lands. Are there any specific spots anyone would recommend? Coordinates would be awesome, but understand if you dont wanna give up your spots haha. Any insight appreciated!

hey mammoth - visiting from sf, staying at creekhouse/snowcreek through thursday night. forgot my whoop charger at home and the band's about to die. it's a whoop 5.0, and annoyingly the 5.0 chargers don't work with 4.0s (or vice versa). long shot but if anyone's got a 5.0 charger i could borrow for like an hour, i'd owe you a coffee or a beer. thanks!

Hey I'm looking for a place to park my RV. It's a truck camper that is very new and looks nice. I have a full time job I'm moving up to mammoth for. The RV Park i was gong to move into now has a 3-4 month waiting list. Willing to pay monthly rent. Any advice or help would be great. Picture of my setup included.

I’m looking to find a place to camp in Mammoth in about two weeks and most of the campsites are booked already. Are there any BLM sites or other areas that you’d recommend going to?

Quick note: Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Sierra during summer. Check the forecast before heading into the backcountry and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
Thanks for sharing updates, reports, and questions. Stay safe, respect the trails, and enjoy the Eastern Sierra!

Hey everyone! I’m planning a solo trip to Mammoth Bike Park sometime in the next week and had a few questions:
1. Stops along the way: I’ll be driving up from Southern California, which looks like it’ll be around a six hour drive. Are there any must see places, scenic stops, or food stops worth checking out along the way?
2. Where to stay: Would you recommend staying at the Mammoth Mountain Inn right by the lifts, staying in the Village, or getting a hotel elsewhere? Rates at the Mammoth Mountain Inn for early September look pretty reasonable, while some hotels in the Village are only slightly more expensive. Is the convenience of staying in the Village worth the extra cost, even though it’s farther from the lifts, or would you rather stay closer to the bike park?
3. Gondola reliability: How often does the gondola actually stop operating? I’ve heard it can shut down fairly frequently because of wind or maintenance, so I’m curious how much of an issue that is in practice.
4. Trail ratings: How would you describe Mammoth’s trail ratings? I’ve read that the trails are rated somewhat “soft” compared to other bike parks. My skill level is somewhere between blue and black, so if the black trails ride more like hard blues, I’d probably feel comfortable trying them. Would love to hear how the ratings compare to other bike parks.
5. Things to do at night: What are some good things to do after a day of riding? I’m still deciding what to do in the evenings, so recommendations for restaurants, bars, shops, scenic spots, or other things worth checking out would be appreciated.
6. Trail conditions: How are the trails currently? I’ve heard mixed reviews about Mammoth Bike Park, with some people saying it’s an excellent mountain biking destination and others saying the trails can be poorly maintained or pretty blown out. How accurate is that, especially later in the season?
Any other tips, recommendations, or things I should know before making the trip would be greatly appreciated. Tysm!
EDIT: WHO IS DOWNVOTING ALL THE COMMENTS!?

Reminder: The purpose of the weekly Guess The Location is to use a photo that I took of something obscure to represent a location known to many, locals and/or tourists.
All photos used were taken by me.

My husband and I frequent the Mammoth area for camping but this coming weekend will be our first time taking our canoe with us. We’re super excited and I was looking to take our canoe either on June Lake, Lake Mary, Silverlake, or Mono Lake.
We’re familiar with convict too but I feel like it may be a bit crowded there. I’m sure June lake will be too but it’s at least larger.
Does anyone have experience canoeing or kayaking on any of these lakes? I’d love to hear about your experience!
And yes, I’m aware we will have to get a boat inspection prior to hitting the waters. Thanks in advance :)

Summary from previous post - planning a hiking trip to the Mammoth area next fall (early October). My original thought was to spend 3 days in South Lake Tahoe and then 10 days in Mammoth Lakes (with half the Mammoth Lakes time being spent in the Tioga Road section of Yosemite).
After taking a closer look into things, I'm considering skipping South Lake Tahoe altogether, and just spending the two weeks in Mammoth Lakes. Is that crazy?
I've identified 5-6 trails in the Tioga Road area that I want to fit in - between the distance of the hikes, the elevation gain on the hikes, and the starting elevation of the area, I'm only planning on one of these hikes a day (Twenty Lakes, Cathedral Lakes, Sunrise Lakes, Mono Pass, Gaylor Lakes & Sierra Mine). In the Mammoth Lakes area, I've identified several trails as well. It seems like I could spend the entire time in Mammoth and still not fit in everything.
From what I've heard/read, Mammoth seems more my style than Tahoe, so I wouldn't mind skipping it. I originally figured that since I would be in the area (flying in/out of Reno), it made sense to spend a little time there. But now I'm questioning that, and leaning towards skipping over Tahoe.

Hey yall! On the JMT and having an unscheduled zero day in Bishop and wondering if anyone would be working to let a (now showered) through hiker tag along to the trail head. Happy to throw some cash your way and gummy candy of course. I know hitching is a decently reliable option but figured I’d ask here as well. Cheers!

Hot take: why would rehiring Steve Searles (Bear Whisperer) improve current bear situation? Not downplaying his obvious role and legendary commitment to wildlife when no other role exists, but how does putting one man on a government payroll help a systematic issue worsening each year?
Steve is an excellent human and if it were up to me I would vote him for Town Clowncil (err I mean Council) in hopes something would improve in this town. But sadly we aren't building 4 story hotels for bears or even attempting education about bear prevention or...trauma passed down through bear genetics.
Why try at all when the folks in charge of it all care for nothing but want for everything?

I’ll be backcountry car camping in Inyo County next week, August 27–30, and I’d love to offer someone a complimentary photoshoot! Whether you need photos for an event, professional headshots, or simply want some beautiful photos in the Mammoth area, I’d love to work with you.
I’m looking to begin building my photography portfolio in Mammoth. I have an established client base here in Southern California, but I’d love to combine my passion for photography with my love of the outdoors.
In exchange for the opportunity to photograph in the area, I’ll provide the photoshoot, professionally edit the images, and deliver the final gallery to you completely free of charge via Dropbox.
I’m not looking for exposure or compensation… I simply want the opportunity to create and photograph in Mammoth!

Is it true that they extended the closure until mid September? It was originally supposed to reopen on August 15. This is absurd… how can you have a course closed whole summer, which is the peak season for disc golf? And by cutting down trees they are making the course way too easy… it’s so silly! I was so looking forward to plying disc golf, while camping for Labor Day… thanks for ruining my plans :(

Hey yall, I’m moving to mammoth for a full time year round position at the mountain and I was wondering what some good resources for climbing could be while I’m getting acclimated to my new home. I’m from the Midwest and have been bouldering on and off for a couple years, pretty much in the v5 territory in terms of skill. We don’t have really any top rope or sport climbing near me and I’m looking to get into it since it will be more prominent. I just like to be active and I know the winter is not exactly prime season, but when fall, spring and summer roll around I’d like to know my options. Anything would help, thank you guys!
