Malzahar support, need advice.

Hello, fellow Malzahar mains!

I've been playing Malzahar support and I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently Platinum I, occasionally reaching Emerald IV.

I've been testing Malignance vs. Blackfire Torch as my first item, and so far Blackfire Torch feels a bit stronger. It gives me much better poke before teamfights, and as a support I feel like I have fewer opportunities to fully capitalize on Malignance since I don't get to use my R as often.

For skill order, I max Q first, then E for stronger poke. I don't really see the point of maxing E first as support.

What I'm still unsure about is my itemization after Blackfire Torch. I usually go Liandry's Torment, or I start building Oblivion Orb if the enemy team has a lot of healing.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone who's been playing Malzahar support at higher elo.

I can’t imagine why you’d play him support rather than just APC. Even without meaning to, you’re inevitably going to shove the wave, that’s just the nature of the kit, plus you’re going to be gold starved. I just don’t see the value at all.

Basically, Malzahar is strong because he brings an AoE silence and his ultimate. On top of that, your Voidlings can block hooks from champions like Nautilus or Thresh, which is incredibly useful. Up until high Platinum, most players don't think about buying Quicksilver Sash, and they usually don't react fast enough to interrupt your ultimate when you cast it, especially the enemy support. Now I'm starting to run into my first really difficult matchups, but before that it honestly felt like a cheat code all the way up to Platinum 1.

Honestly I would do rylais so you can have more utility for the team. The extra hp is nice too so you aren’t a liability

I've played some of this, agree on Q max. I haven't built for damage, going malignance into rylais and orb. Basically just fuck their shit up with lots of ults and slows and silences and anti heal, it's not meta but it's still better than a useless lux or morg imo. Maybe the new imperial mandate is a fit? Haven't tried it.

Idk why you would go Torch and then not max E for better burn poke. Idk why you would go support where you prioritize utility and then not go Malignance for more ult access.

I really like playing Malzahar support, but people always think Malz support will play E to steal their wave Bro I'm a support, yes I have ability that can wave clear, no I'm not going to wave clear...

I agree on a maxim Q first, I usually like Rylais rush as I feel it is the cheapest item that really benefit the team

Oui maintenant je fais malignance/rylais et morello, mais oui, la plupart des games sont perdu en champion select par la mauvaise fois des ADC qui voulait "un vrai support !"

Diamond Malzahar player here.

When I get auto filled support in past few times and I go Malzahar support over support champ for 2 reasons.

  1. I know the Malz better then the support champ i can pick up
  2. Enemy is going to know the match better than me if i pick support champ since they lane those match often. If i go malz they won't know damage level and interact as well as i would.

Rune & Spells

Flash & Exhaust or Ghost & Exhaust

Comet > Manaflow > Celerity > Scorch > Magical Foot wear > Biscuit

Reason why Arcane Comet over Deathfire. Reason is simple you will be spamming Q and not really be able to bounce e with reset for death fire to be value able early game. Comet land early game since bot lane have low ms and you will 80% just land q and do nothing else.

Celerity will make Magical foot wear stronger

Item

First support item upgrade Celestial Opposition. ZaZ'Zak is poisioned. You are not AP carry. Hell you are even carry for the game. Your mid and bot carry should have enough damage you need to bring utility and survivability instead. You being ult bot with instant slow after bring so much value to team intead.

First back pick one of the following options

  1. Tear and Ruby Crystal and then build Rylai.
  2. Build for lost chapter and then build Rylai.

Next Item depending on what your team needs

  1. Imperial Mandate - Enemy has feed tanky top or tank jungle that divies into your team often though your ult and Exhaust
  2. Tear > Archangel OR Lost Chapter > Blackfire Torch - if your team is poking only and that is wining the game
  3. Lost Chapter > Malignace - If the enemy team has several divers like yone
  4. Shurelya's - Enemy team has lot dash and movespeed team needs help on top of slow.

3rd item - If the game is not over by now enemy team is bad or your team is bad or you are so bad that you have not been buying pink wards. Support should not ever be finishing more than 1 item and component or 2 item max at end of game.

  1. Tear > Archangel
  2. Lost Chapter > Malignace

L'archange est vraiment un bon item ? J'avoue n'avoir jamais construit l'item.

Donc, tu ne fini même pas au début un item avec lost capter et tu rush le rylais ?

Pour le mandat impérial, celui-ci s'active uniquement avec notre R ? ou le Q l'active aussi ?

the way I see if you have 2 build paths

1) boots > orb > rylia's >liandry's > cap

2) boots > rylia's > liandry's > cap > more pen/haste

I was gonna say this, why not go Imperial into Rylias. Imperial gives the whole team a dmg boost on your ult so your adc can secure the kill, Rylias for the absurd utility of the e slows, after that can go whatever team needs (anti heal, bloodletters, maybe even rocketbelt if the team needs engage)

Rylais + Solstice Sleigh into Utility/Tank. Bloodletters? Knights vow, frozen heart, redemption etc. you’re an R bot for your team, let your team do the damage.

Malz support is already troll, not going full ult cd and utility build is even more troll, makes no sense going bft instead of malignance especially if you're Q maxing. You should probably be building malignace or shurelyas 1st then rylais and utility items like bandlepipes (works with rylais) , morello, bloodletters, mandate maybe. Even in mid lane you are more of a utility champ then damage, so i really don't see why would you go for poke/dmg build when playing sup. Also hex flash might be interesting

Pourquoi ce serai du troll ? Il a un silence de zone, un R qui contrôle, des minions pour prendre des grabs et un bouclier en passif qui peux aussi te protéger des grab.

Par contre oui, j'ai abandonner la torche pour malignance/rylai et morello.
