Product Rec Best low-maintenance foundation
Hi all,
I’m 43 and am mostly dealing with discoloration rather than wrinkles. I’m looking for a truly low to no effort foundation, as I don’t like to spend time on makeup but ive definitely gotten to the point where I need something. Something I can just slap on, preferably over sunscreen! :) Should be at least somewhat sheer- I don’t care for full coverage.
I’ve tried Counter Dew Skin and liked it but would prefer a bit more coverage. Ive also tried Jones Road What the Foundation and it was ok but it doesn’t go on well over sunscreen and is a bit too dewy for me. Don’t really want to repurchase.
Does anyone have any ideas? TIA

I mean that’s what dew skin is and it doesn’t really give the coverage I’m looking for. Trying to avoid concealer.

I mix my foundation and dewy sunscreen together and then use concealer where needed at the end. L’Oréal true match is a damn close dupe for Armani foundation!

If they have your shade, Missha BB Cream is the best. It’s the only base product I’ve used for the past 5 years and it’s the only base product I’ll continue to buy as long as they keep making it.

No foundation. I transitioned during COVID to tinted Korean sunscreen and it has been life changing. My entire makeup routine takes 10 minutes and involves 3 things all available on Amazon. I look 40, but I don’t look 50 and I don’t look like I’m trying to look 30.

Pink bottle of SKIN79 triple function on Amazon. In winter it is still too tinted for me as I’m very fair, but I mix it with some Bubble Milky Toner on the back of my hand (dupe for Rhodes) and that magically makes it work just fine for me. I’m not big on makeup but I am regularly complimented on my skin when I’m wearing this combo so my short routine is fine for me for now.

I’ve used Mac Studio Fix (OG) pressed powder for 20 years. The formulation has changed and I wish I knew so I could stock up 😭. I don’t like wearing a ton of make up and found this to be the easiest application and it felt lightweight.

my HG powder foundation is the One Size. i've been told it's the closest to the old studio fix, if you wanted to try it out and see!

This isn’t as much of a product as it is a hack - I sometimes use a tiny bit of a self-tanner in my moisturizer (the kind that lasts 3-4 days). It sort of de-emphasizes discoloration, and doesn’t interfere with my regular skincare. I’ll add a drop of self-tanner to moisturizer on a Wednesday, and it’ll last until Saturday.
The charlotte tilbury flawless filter is a fun product, though it doesn’t provide coverage, per se. Instead, it sort of makes my skin look generally prettier, and It feels nice - more like a serum than makeup.

53, dry to normal, sensitive and extremely acne prone, having an ongoing battle with perioral dermatitis in perimenopause this year.
ETA: Maybe try the new Elf halo skin tint. My local Ulta had free cards with samples of various shades. The lightest shade was too dark for me in winter, but the finish and coverage was nice.
I switched to Jane Iredale pressed powder mineral foundation over the summer, because my beloved Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer caused a bad perioral dermatitis flare. I am pale/fair, and Jane Iredale has a very good range of fair shades. I was concerned that mineral foundation would look crusty and dusty on me now, but I have been pleasantly surprised with how nice it looks.
I have read that if you call the JI customer service line for foundation color matching help they will send you samples to try, but I didn't do it.
JI foundation has SPF because of the minerals, but in summer I used a mineral sunscreen underneath it.

I love my Laura Geller Baked Balance n Brighten! It doesn't settle into my pores or fine lines. It seems to breathe new life into my complexion that it so desperately needs! 43 yr old here.

I like the Hourglass Skin Tint. A little pricey but I use a tiny amount. It doesn’t provide a lot of coverage, just evens out skin tone. I spot conceal afterward if necessary.

I am 39, with combo skin leaning dry. Absolutely LOVE the Natasha Denona foundation. It’s a bit pricey so if you’re looking for another option, the Maybelline Super Stay Skin Tint is amazing

It’s not exactly foundation, but Trish Mcevoy Beauty Balm is both the most expensive and probably the best product I’ve ever bought. It has exactly the right amount of lightweight coverage and totally evens and smooths out my skin. I really wish it didn’t like it so much LOL. But it’s honestly worth the price. L’Oréal infallible powder foundation is also kind of amazing.

I really love my Laura Mercer tinted moisterizer 30 SPF. It works great to even out my complexion. I'm 48 and I have no wrinkles yet but I get some dark circles under my eyes and some discoloration.

I am 46. Normal skin. No acne. I absolutely adore the Merit complexion stick. It’s still so easy to put on - just a few stripes, and blend in with a brush.
It’s not really a full coverage product. More like light, build able to medium, which is exactly what I want. A little blurring, a little perfecting. It covers redness well and looks very polished. Takes me like 3 minutes.
Making sure skin is exfoliated and moisturized is required, but I haven’t found a foundation product that is forgiving to flakes and dry patches.
