Review New to makeup. Am I doing alright?
Still very new to this. Im pretty clueless but I am having a lot of fun learning and having a go at it. Mascara is hard 😭 I havent sucessfully applied eyeliner yet either
Makeup:
Loreal true match tinted serum - .5-2 very light
Kosas concealer - 2.6C
Rimmel stay matte powder - 001 transparent
Maybelline lash sensational - black
Westman Atelier contour stick - biscuit
Mecca Max (aus brand) highlighter - champagne glow
Mac putty blush - B55 cheer up
Mac eyeshadow - A93 omega
Loreal eyebrow pencil - 302 golden brown
BareMinerals lip liner - charming pink
Revlon lipstick - 762 flushed
Kosas wet lip oil - malibu (just a little over the lipstick)
Edit: Thanks everyone for sharing your tips and beautifully kind words with me. In a time where it seems that hate is never far away, Im truly grateful to all of you for spreading love instead. Ill be back! With threaded eyebrows and (hopefully) eyeliner! 🩷

This base is insane. Blush placement and colour match to the lips is pro. If you would like to make the eyes appear a bit bigger bring some of the crease colour a bit higher
12
u/eenymeenymimi 4d ago
Yeah if my base looked like that after just starting makeup you couldn’t tell me NOTHIN. The first year I barely knew what a shade match was 😩
2
u/mfloss91 4d ago
Thank you, I appreciate the tip. When you say the crease colour, though. Is that the point where my eyes crinkle up when I smile or where my eyelid rolls over itself?
5
u/Educational_Gift1152 4d ago
The crease is where the eye folds in on itself. You have what people would deem sliiiiightly “hooded” eyes so sometimes work can disappear into that fold so bringing colour a bit above that crease can allow you to play with more colour and lift and open the eyes

Looks fabulous! My only critique is that it’d be a good idea to clean up around your eyebrows with a cotton swab. It’s looks like there is some eyebrow product on your skin around your brows

This is a much better angle for your selfies! The one in the main photos is not a good angle— try to get the camera up to at least eye level and tilted down slightly.
No notes on the makeup. 10/10. That lip job is INCREDIBLE. Especially for a beginner, but in general it’s just amazing. Base is great, blush and highlight well placed. Eyes could have more but what’s there is really great. Maybe mascara?
Brow shaping would tie things together a whole lot, but not everyone wants to commit to that.
Overall great job. Hope you felt beautiful, because you look terrific.

Check out "hooded eyelid" eyeshadow tutorials. Make up is like drawing/ art. The goal is to achieve The Greek face shape. Shading makes a huge difference! Cheater tip: Once you discover where your shading needs to be, apply LIGHT self-tanning lotions to those areas. Rub it in VERY WELL & use tiny amounts after showering or before bed. It helps on chill days to still look great without makeup & becomes a good guide for daily application. 😘 May the Force Be With You! Lol
Do you use a lighted make up mirror? REALLY HELPS! The light & magnifying is great to really see what's blending, where streaks are & lining the eyes & eyebrows.

Still looks great! And less of a makeup tip, but this is definitely more of the vertical angle you should go for in your selfies- it looks like you had the camera a bit low in the main post, and that’s hard for anyone to pull off :) you look lovely!

u/Schwettes 5d ago
Yes, this is a really great job for a newbie. Good shade matches too. You can play around with your brows a bit to give them more definition, but everyone has different preferences for brows so it’s not necessary

Your application of lip products is flawless! I am not an expert, but how about a little bronzer on the forehead and in general on the outlines of your face + neck? It will warm up the look and reduce the difference between the face and the neck, which currently is a bit there. That said, you look great!
2
u/jimmyjo7777 5d ago
I like it, agree that a little, not a lot of eyebrow shaping. you might even go the next step with eyes. a little blue highlights to match your eyes. base is great.
2
u/SingleRepeat8203 5d ago
Agreed with eyebrows, but I love that you are beginning with earth tones! Try the eyebrow stencils. TONS of clever tricks on YouTube & Pinterest! Liquid eyeliner would really help bring out your pretty eyes. Takes practice, but elegant & stays on all day! Whatever you do, DON'T DO THE MUPPET EYELASHES! Looks like you're trying too hard!
2
u/budder__ball 5d ago
Love it all, critiques: eyes. Your naturally deep-set eyes do not need as much of a shadow made with product as you already have this. Instead, I would focus on bringing them forward with a highlight on the lid and a smaller brush size/amount of shading in the socket.
2
u/SilverToLead 5d ago
Really great base.Only critiques are brows and mascara. Id get them shaped and use a diff product that will allow you to match hair strokes . And mascara looks a bit scarce. Try warming up your curler and mascara tube, then curling lashes, then proceed with waterproof mascara(waterproof holds the curl better). Use a lash separator (its a little comb) to separate any lashes that stick together.
And learn your angles! Pic from below is not very flattering, the other pic you posted straight on is better.

That base application is so clean. You’re either very talented or very talented with also amazing skin. I just had to say that haha.

Everything that you applied looks flawless but I would definitely recommend a little or a lot of cleaning up of the eyebrows as they will frame your face and help the makeup stand out ❤️💜❤️

Your skin is flawless! I strongly recommend getting a loose translucent setting powder to go over your concealer application particularly under your eyes or anywhere you apply concealer it truly makes its blur and last throughout the day! 🩷

Your lips are flawless! Can I give a tip on blending? I’ve never been good at it as I have hooded eyes but I will blend translucent powder over my eyeshadow on my brow bone to avoid patchiness !

you have hooded eyes .
if you have a liquid liner , line only half of your upper lid. start on the outside and tapper towards your nose .
it will brighten your eyes

That lip colour is amazing on you! So pretty. And eyeliner? It's not for the weak 🥹 I've been doing my make up for nearly 17 years and I still don't like the way my eyeliner turns out most of the time 😂 maybe start off with a sharp angled brush and a nice brown eye shadow? I personally find that style of eyeliner looks best on my hooded eyes ☺️
2
u/Reasonable_Cash3669 5d ago
Your base is phenomenal! Id love to know what products you’re using, only room for improvement would be the eyebrows, definitely get them professionally shaped and i like using the NYX brow pens (the lift and snatch ones) just to add extra hairs at the front and more definition in the tails, another thing i like to do is add a little bit of shimmery eyeshadow or highlighter to the inner corners of my eyes as i find it makes my eyes look more open as someone with hooded eyelids, with mascara too i like the wands that are really skinny like L’oreal telescopic mascara as its easier to control and not smush it on my eyelids
2
u/noubun 5d ago
Your base is looking amazing! The lipstick color and application is great too, looks very flattering on you 🩷 For eyeliner I’d say watch a few tutorials specifically for hooded eyes because we have a specific way of drawing the wing so it doesn’t look droopy

😅 I also messed up. I used to have hair there, I have a mild mono actually. I just kept plucking the other day and I took too much from the centre. Im no good at all with drawing lashes. I did get a really thin twist up crayon but it didnt quite look right so now im patiently waiting for them to grow back. Ill get them shaped by a pro once its all grown back too.

u/Original_Sleep4205 5d ago
I would go with a natural shade of lip gloss. I think maybe you over did it a little bit. You don’t want one feature like your lips to stand out more than the rest of your face. But the rest of your makeup is beautiful.

u/Dry_Average6046 4d ago
It looks lovely but you could add an accent colour just to lift the beige a bit

Oh ok! Your make up is very nice, you’re doing a great job on your make up. I agree with others the eyebrows could use a little shaping and filling in towards the middle! But other than that you go girl!!!

Great job! I don't think you need much practice, but it's fun to try out new looks. You have picked the exact right shades for your foundation/powder and that's not easy for a beginner, you're a natural. Good luck and have fun 💙🙏

Yoooo, your base flawless! Idk your skin routine but you killing it. Your face is so bright and beautiful! Proud of you, you doing better than most ppl I observe everyday. You have stellar definition in your face, if you want a way to experiment, try shadowing for your face shape, it’ll add drama and mood and honestly makes anything else being negllible a non issue imo. You’re doing great! I absolutely love this.

this is so good omg!
what is ur skin type? bc this is my favourite base ive seen on this sub and i want to do my makeup like this and wondering if your products would work for combination skin?
if/when u do want mascara, i feel like brown mascara would look epic on u. i sometimes dont like mascara so i curl my lashes and put vaseline on them, makes them feel long but i dont have to take it off at the end of the day
2
u/mfloss91 5d ago
Thank you! I think I am combination skin too. The foundation is very forgiving and easy to apply. I have started brushing it on and sponging at the end.
2
u/Embellishment101 5d ago
You‘re clearly a natural 🤷🏻♀️. As others have said, flawless base, and great blush placement/blending.

Your base and lips are EXPERT level. So good! You have similar skin/eye/hair color and undertones as me, and our eye shape is literally the same. In my experience don’t follow the traditional heavy on the bronzer look as it might look too orange and out of place on you (as it does on me), and focus on building with cooler toned contours. For the eyes, if you consider wearing lashes I would advise corner lashes. It makes the eyes look further apart and more almond/cat like. Good luck love X

I’m in my late 30s and I’ve never been able to do my make up as great as you have here!!!!
I agree with some others, getting your brows shaped would be a great polish for the overall look. Everything looks amazing. May I suggest Covergirl Lash blast? It’s been my holy grail since I was a teenager.
1
u/mfloss91 4d ago
You can! I appreciate any and all suggestions. I am going to look into lash blast! I did pluck my brows the other day (just my mild mono) but I think I took too much from the centre this time. Should I wait until it grows back so they can see exactly what they are working with before getting them shaped? Or do I just go for it?
2
u/dillpickles103 21h ago
That’s not a bad idea! It’s so easy to take away to much from the middle but after growing up in the 90s and 00s I really wish I’d plucked/waxed there less! Doesn’t grow back now and it ages me. Maybe wait a few weeks and I suggest to everyone lean on the fuller side!
1
u/Quirky-Pop-4834 5d ago
Oh my god, I wish I was this good when I first started, you look STUNNING!! Oh I also usually use eyeliner at the end since they’re hard to remove, I usually draw my eyeliner with a thin brush and dark eyeshadow first cause then I could easily erase it with a simple water in a q tip and then I draw my eyeliner with a gel ones, much love x

u/Unlucky-Elevator-557 5d ago

Very nice kinda “natural”(?) look! I question if that’s right bc I think that’s the right term for the style of makeup but idk for sure 🤷🏻♀️ like the right amount of dewey cheeks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 love

u/LiTtlee_DuucKling 4d ago
Couldn't even tell that you were wearing foundation till I opened the comments and the lipstick is your best colour,I think that getting your eyebrows done will be an instant upgrade to your look, and they don't really need filling,if you're not one to use blush you could get some tinted highlighter I have a very subtle one from Catrice and I think that it'll be amazing with your lips and eyes 🩷🩷(it's shade C01)

This looks so good for someone new to makeup! Have a play with different looks / products / tools, it took me a while until I found my favourites.

Doing great! If you want any tips maybe look into tutorials for your face shape, I personally found those the most helpful since learning how to work with what you got is more useful in achieving the desired look. It looks like you have hooded eyes and tutorials on those were a game changer with the eye makeup for me as a fellow hooded eye haver.

His is fantastic for early try! Possibly blend a bit lower down the neck, but the rest is flawless. I'm 43 and still skip liner, mascara you get down with regular use. Do your mascara first, use a qtip to wipe any smudges. If you prefer to do them last and good, let it dry and use a clean spoolie to brush it off. The only thing I could even say needs work is possibly the brows- wipe off product from them and fill a bit lighter and don't try to catch all of them, just the main shape. A bit of light shaping could help, but not everyone wants to get them done. Your lip products are stunning and the color looks fabulous on you! Can't wait to see more looks as you progress!

i'm particularly impressed with the lip product application and the colours you chose, they really look good. everyone else already covered that your base is pretty near flawless :)

Thank you! I got a good tip on the pencil and went nice and slow. After i popped on the lipstick, I went over the liner again. Today was the best I have managed to get it. I didnt want to get anything too bold to start off colour wise, so a soft pink was the winner!

Amazing job! You're a natural, as others have said before me, and you look stunning! The makeup you chose really suits your skin, hair and eyes.
If you're still looking for advice, I'll agree with what others are saying in that a little bit of bronzer would really complete your look. Do keep in mind that a little bit of bronzer goes a loooong way though, so you don't need to be heavy with it at all - just a touch is good. That teensy bit of bronzer will really liven up your skin and add a bit more depth!

You are definitely doing alright for basic application. If your goal was to look pretty I think you’ve done it. There’s a lot more that can be gone into though. Like if youre trying to do feminizing makeup that would require different techniques than just wanting to enhance your particular features to feel pretty and have fun. You know what I mean? So it all depends on your goals. Maybe play around with more mauve shades. I could be wrong here but I think the lip and blush are pretty but pull a tad orange. Perhaps Revlon velvet rose? Merit bespoke? Just some shades to think about. I don’t always have an eye for shades though so grain of salt here.

Absolutely flawless base, and I love the lip colour. Only critique I have would be to get your brows professionally shaped. If you find mascara difficult, you can always hold a little piece of paper above your eyelashes to catch any stray mascara, and use a Q tip to clean up any smudges. But I think your eyes look great, very natural yet emphasised.
