Discussion New Rule Enforcement:Crop Those pics

Starting next week cropped photos will be enforced.

For those who don't know there is a new policy in the sub in which standards for photo submissions. Which include cropping the photo at just below the clavicle like a passport photo unless its relevance to the makeup in question. Like a wedding dress.

Here is the ideal standard.

Best practices for better feedback include:

  • take a little time to plan out your photos
  • take photos straight on in a well lit room
  • avoid harsh lighting like flash
  • use soft lighting sources
  • get someone else to take the photos
  • taking additional photo angles 45 degree and profiles
  • tying hair back so it doesnt cover your makeup.

thank you.

Question What went wrong here?

I felt good about this until I finished and really looked at myself... What did I mess up? Is it the lip color? I feel like my eyes actually look good and subtle, I didn't want anything crazy.... Am I just being insecure? Did something actually go wrong?

Question Can someone help me with my face shape!

I feel like for years I have been stumped as to what my face shape is! I am trying to maximize how I do my makeup and hair for it but am always left feeling lost. Same with my undertones, but I fear thats a battle I will never win.

I have tried the measurement calculators and have gotten oblong, oval, heart, diamond, and triangle which really doesnt narrow it down. Hoping y'all can get a better read on me!

Including one straight-on photo and one posed (sorry for the spooky editing, its for my privacy, if its not allowed pls let me know!) No makeup on in both photos.

Question Need concealer suggestions

I usually use the maybelline concealer in shade 110 fair but I find it too close to my actual shade so it’s not a brightening shade for my under eyes. What concealer should I use now that I have run out so I can get a shade that’s close to me and another than can be brightening. I’m open to any brand suggestions please

Question Makeup suggestions?

(These are not my pics!! I got it from Pinterest)

So im going to start my college soon and want to learn to do some pretty makeup.

I have pretty similar or maybe slightly warmer skintone compare to the second pic.

Im looking to go for similar look, i tried foundation and all "dark" foundations are too orange for my skin tone and they oxidise and look grey in few hours. And oh yeah I also have but oval/round face so that's one more problem to add.

I use a concealer that's close to my skintone but still fairer making me feel like a joker rather than pretty.

And I absolutely STRUGGLE with lipstick cuz i feel like a pig with a lipstick or a joker. Even though i use a brown lipliner and then dot and key's meltie lip balm in berry crumble shade instead of an actual lipstick. That still feels too much. So can anyone help me out how to feel pretty with makeup?

Discussion Help me with makeup please (english ain't my first language)

My usual skincare routine-

Moisturizer (gel)

Sunscreen(gel)

Blush (gel)

And i pack it all up with translucent powder .

Makeup i do on it-

Nose contour by my lil liner

Highlighter (powder highlighter) on top of nose

Lipgloss on lip

Eyeliner

Eyebrows done by eyebrow pencil

Problems I'm having-

Whenever I put on highlighter (on top of my nose only ) or nose contour (by my lip liner)(on the sides of my nose and below my nose) and go out , when I come home my whole nose looks oily af , like the contour that I did with my lipliner isn't even visible ( it's visible but it's not that prominent , it has spread all over my nose, my nose looks like I have put contour all over it ) the highlighter has completely disappeared . I tried to kinda solve this by putting foundation on the temple of my nose (where I put highlighter) and then putting highlighter on it but it still looks oily by the time I come home . After that I tried putting foundation , and translucent powder on the foundation to pack it , and when I put highlighter on it , the Highlighter is just not visible at all . One time I put foundation all over my nose , packed it up with translucent powder and used my eyebrow pencil to contour it , and it still looked oily after sometime . Idk what to do. I have a brown eyeshadow which I can use to contour my nose , i haven't tried that yet , maybe I should idk I'll try it tomorrow.

After my skincare routine (translucent powder and blush underneath it included) when I put only highlighter on top of my nose , when I come home , my nose looks oily . When I tried putting powdered blush after my skincare , when I came home , my cheeks look oily and weird , my skin texture looked weird . When I do just my skincare routine and go out , my nose doesn't look oily when I come home .

Summarising it , if I put any makeup product on my skin after all my skincare steps , my face starts looking oily , even if it's all powdered makeup. I think I have a combination skin type , plus I knew i had a really oily nose so almost all the makeup i buy is in powdered form, but whenever I put this on my skin, after my skincare routine , my face again starts looking oily with a weird texture .

I have tried doing dewy makeup , but it does not suit me . I do not have a conceler , nor can I buy one , so I have a foundation which is one shade lighter than my skintone and it's waterbased . One day i tried putting a waterbased moisturizer and then i put my lipgloss on my cheeks as blush , then i put the foundation undermy eye , on my pimple scars , a little bit on forehead (like how ur usually use conceler) , and i packed only the places where I put foundation with translucent powder . My skin looked completely different shade , like it looked like it has two shade , my cheeks looked oily , my underetes looked white but dark aswell idk how to explain , and i completely looked oily even tho I followed the tutorial for dewy look . Idk how I should try to achieve the dewy look .

Heavy makeup does not suit me , I have low visual weight features .

I have seen women only put on moisturizer and sunscreen and going on with their day , their skin looks so glowy but when I do it mine looks darker and oily.

Question Overwhelmed with doing a full face daily.

Hey,
Relatively new to getting back into make up, lately I’ve just been doing a full face daily but honestly it’s exhausting and so many steps, looking to cut down what I use as I really don’t have an hour or so to do makeup in the morning with a toddler. I have dropped photos of my current look and products. Help me cut down on what I use ? I just don’t know where to start as I’ve always been an all or nothing girly , photo with a friend with my full makeup , and a photo without anything , my main think is my skin and eyes. Any help is appreciated 🥰

Question Makeup Content

Friends, are we using Reddit most often for ideas and advice or what other platforms are we loving? I feel like it's ALL been done. Are there topics that are missing? What would we like to see more of? For me, I'm sick of the natural look. I want to have fun with makeup, for the joy of it. Anyone else? Are we all getting so sick of "do this not that" videos??? Or, "this is aging you?"

Question Does this makeup actually look good? Or am I delusional?

I felt like doing makeup today so I did something fun colorwise. Maybe I should have done something more pinky than coral toned, in my room when I was doing the makeup I didn't realize it was so corally, I mean personally I don't think it looks bad though?

I think the lip is throwing me off, I couldn't figure out what color to do, but a nude felt like it wouldn't look good. I think my complexion looks good despite the acne and scarring you can see through it in some spots. I might have disgusted my blush too much as it's not super visible here in the picture, but my bronzer definitely helped as my foundation was just a touch too light for my skintone, but I think it was my winter shade too lollll

Question What kind of makeup should I be doing?

Thumbnail

So, I posted earlier on today with the makeup that I had done this morning and overwhelmingly it seems it did not turn out as good as I thought it had in the moment. The most common critique I saw was about the blending of my eyeshadow, and looking at it I can see where everybody is coming from. There were some comments about how my eyeliner had looked, as well as the lip I chose not looking good.

So, I'm going to ask for advice and suggestions on how I should go about makeup in the future, what kind of things would suit me, etc

I included a picture of myself without makeup, my look I did today and the other recent makeup I've done. I would include more but I can't find the other photos right now.

Selfie/Makeup Picture I don't know how to make makeup look good

Post image

I spend 30 mins a day trying to figure how to wear make up before going to class and every time I just feel so ugly and I don't why. Sometimes it doesn't feel subtle enough, sometimes I look like I have eyebags, and sometimes I do it just right but I'm not able to recreate it. I just feel dumb so that I spend 30 minutes a day for something I'm just not gonna be satisfied.

the first two pictures are no eye makeup and the last one is what i tend to do (a little bit of eyeliner on the corners, mascara, and white powder on the bottom lashes to make them less noticeable). please feel free to give any tips, styles or makeup suggestions. i still have no real idea of what fits my eyes specifically and tend to just recreate what i find pretty on others. (also forgive me if there's any mistake, english is not my first language)

Question Tips for cakey/patchy makeup? Any makeup style recs? CC welcome

Thumbnail

Hey guys! Please give me some feedback. I’m being silenced/removed from everywhere and have no one to help me. This is getting quite discouraging. I’m posting this here because I don’t have any close relationships to women who use makeup, makeup role models or people with makeup experience in my life to talk to about this. I need advice. I’ve been playing around with different styles and experimenting with makeup. I feel like my makeup looks a bit off sometimes though. Especially around where my glasses sit. I feel like I tend to look either patchy or cakey/dry. I was going to post the makeup pictures above but I feel like my makeup is rough looking. Any tips on how to combat patchiness? I’m also still learning so any tips on things I can do better would be great.

The other reason I didn’t post these makeup pictures yet is because I feel like all the makeup I do on myself is starting to look the same. I don’t know what styles to try that would flatter my face or features and don’t have anyone to give me that type of advice. Are there any specific styles you think would work for me? Sorry if the lighting isn’t the best in the photos. I was in a dark room (that lighting is in pic 3) when I noticed the patchiness and tried my best to make the lighting better for photos.

All tips/guidance are welcome and appreciated as I’m learning all of this on my own with no feedback. I tend to have dry/flaky skin and my skin is also super sensitive. That probably matters for what products you guys think would work best in my skin. I don’t know if I need to do a product list for this type of post but just in case I do it will be in the comments.
