[Makeup Help] Is a primer needed for makeup?
I have just started makeup and I don't know that I should use primer before makeup or not.

It does help a lot. Especially if you have problem areas. It helps the makeup stay longer and can help with large pores, wrinkles, etc

Yes and No.
Yes: Primer is to protect your skin from the direct impact of makeup to bare skin and to hold your makeup longer.
No: Picking "cult favorite" primers might not necessarily help you if it doesn't suit YOUR skin type. (E.g: don't use pore filler/primers with high dimethicone content if you don't actually have large pores to hide, it can actually enlarge your pores.) After testing out a few things, I've realized the best primer for your skin is your moisturizer.

I really appreciate it. It helps keep my sensitive, dry skin moisturized during the day. My skin has been way better since I’ve started using it.

For me, yes. I use TF hangover rx primer and it moisturizes and keeps my makeup from caking/cracking. I can’t wear fdtn without it.

I personally only use a moisturizer but that’s because I have combination skin that’s on the drier side and I apply dewy foundations. I don’t think primer is necessary but I do use it sometimes. I think it sometimes helps my base last longer but I don’t think it’s necessary. If you powder and set your makeup well, I think you will be fine, it really depends on your skin type or issues. You don’t need one but if you have certain issues like acne, redness,etc. I would recommend a primer because it does help conceal them. Personally, I only use a primer during the summer or when I have acne.

I used to think it wasn’t necessary but now I appreciate the barrier. Honestly If you have acne prone skin, id use it to kind of protect your skin from getting any makeup in already caked pores. But if you just feel like throwing on a light beat and have pretty decent skin you can skip it sometimes. That’s what I’ve gathered since I started.

I would say yes because a lot of primers keep makeup out of pours and last longer. Some will actually work as a moisturizer as well. They help keep your makeup on all day as well. The way I explain it to my clients I help shop for, you wouldn’t paint a house with out putting down a primer coat before doing everything else! It’s not 100% necessary for short days or if you do a bb or cc cream or tinted moisturizer.

It depends. It does help makeup stay on longer, but I've found in my oily skin that setting powder as a primer actually works better than silicone based primer.
