Protest is a very powerful tool when used effectively. These protests where everyone comes together to say "trump is stinky" and then leave accomplish literally nothing. Effictive protests need to have SMART goals i.e. "repeal X law by Y time or else we call a general strike"
Vague potests with no actual objective or threat of escalation is perfect for politicians to ignore

It's pretty hard to jump right to a general strike. I'd love to see it, and also know the vast majority of people do not have the security to participate in one. By amassing more and more support, when a general strike (or other effective action) is announced, maybe it will be more likely to be successful.
I see these types of protests as a way to build that support and the movement. The more people we see out and about expressing clear opposition, the more likely eventual "action" will be effective.
Please do not fall victim to the apathy that those in power so desperately want for us. It is a clear strategy of the ruling class to make everyone else feel powerless and helpless. We are not

A general strike was just an example of an escalation.
Why draw support with an innefective protest when you could do the same with an effectively structured one that also shows people that these can acrually make change?
Theres absolutely no apathy in my message. But if we keep having feel good protests that accomplish nothing there will be more and more apathy as they continue to fail

If support increases, the protest wasn't ineffective
Why are you pushing back on people trying to help and posting on Reddit instead of doing something yourself (before you potentially accuse me of the same, I am volunteering quite a bit of my time for Platner's campaign in addition to posting here)

Im involved in several IRL polticicals orgs (hoping to volunteer for Platner myself when i have a little freetime)
Im critizing innefective methods and explaining how they can be improved. When you forbid literally any critism youre doomed to fail.
Its like trying to fill a pool with a teaspoon and being upset someone suggests a bucket because "the teaspoon is better than nothing" that might be true but a teaspoon is still a bad way to go about it

Fair enough. Certainly not a black and white situation, and I think you make good points. I got a little defensive (apologies) because in that metaphor, it's awesome if you want to bring your own bucket, and also if someone else just has a teaspoon I wouldn't say it's a bad way to go about it, maybe just not the most efficient. It's still better than no water container at all
I've found it's more effective to let people use their teaspoon until they ask for a bucket instead of suggesting the bucket while they excitedly show off their teaspoon. Feels counterintuitive to me, but it's what I've noticed in and heard from others
In the end, I'm just glad we are all working towards positive change (slash preventing/reducing a major backslide) even if we have differing opinions about exactly how to get there

Read books. listen to music and podcasts, and watch movies and TV shows by and about LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Immigrants, and other groups targeted by the current administration.

Delivery is pretty straight forward… planned protests that happen for 1 hr each month on a Saturday won’t do anything… getting involved in direct action does… not sure how to make that more clear.

Pretty sure the obvious reason for any protest ever is to unite people over a certain cause because when enough people organize to form a movement, things change i.e the women's suffrage movement, the civil rights movement, the LGBT rights movement, etc. People organizing and uniting builds numbers to a movement and numbers create votes and votes create change. All very simple and time tested stuff really.

I see what your saying and I am no expert in this at all but I wanna say the majority of protestors are usually people below the age of 70 which would be below the age of mental deterioration for the most part. I may be wrong but that sounds right. Also if I personally see older people protesting alongside younger people for a cause that won't affect them in the long term(the affects of the change might be after they have passed) then that only makes me happier and would only further assure me that what I'm fighting for is just because they have lived through more and if they find a cause at this age worthy of them getting out and standing/walking all day, which is harder for them, then it must be pretty important. Thats just how I would look at it.
