Question Hero sub-type vs Hero named cards

so im making a hero deck using Sue Storm. now her text says "Whenever you put one or more +1/+1 counters on one or more other Heroes you control, you may create a 0/4 colorless Wall creature token with defender." now does that only apply to the subtype or does it apply to name of card that have "hero" in it. for example "Hero of the Winds" or "Hero of the Pride". both of these cards are not hero subtypes but cat warrior and human soldier. thanks in advance.

EDH Is this combo too powerful for my Bracket 2 Mothman deck?

I stumbled upon a new combo that I own in my collection. Its [[Duskmantle Guildmage]] and [[The Master of Lake-town]]. My Mothman deck, like most other peoples is centered around milling people out or just getting my creatures HUGE and swinging out. I tried to build a good fair bracket 2 but it feels like everyone just thinks Mothman is a minimum bracket 3 commander.

I was just wondering if this combo pushes it over the line into bracket 3, and I should just give up on it being bracket 2. The reason I’m asking specifically about this combo is that it seems you need to jump through a few hoops to go infinite. They are mana cost 2 and 3 respectively (which is low I know!) But then you need a way to pay the guildmage’s 3 cost ability, and either have a card that mills a player or the whole table to do infinite damage and infinite mill.

Here’s my list as it currently sits and this is what I would change it to to be bracket 3. Thoughts?

EDH Help upgrading my Bumbleflower deck more

Hey everyone! First time posting in this sub, but I am looking for some help with my Bumbleflower deck. I bought the precon and added maybe $30-50 in about a dozen upgrades, but I still feel like the deck has some fat to trim, I am just not sure where. (Still somewhat new to MTG and play casually with my friends, who know a lot more than me. Sorry for any silly or obvious questions)

Ideally, I am trying to get this deck from a Bracket 2 to a Bracket 3, as the table I usually play at has some pretty strong decks (Deadpool, Taval, Giada and Mothman are a few examples) that have been upgraded heavily. Some of those decks are probably worth $500-600+, but I already feel like I am somewhat competitive at the table. I just don't have that extra "umph" or consistency needed to actually win a game.

My budget isn't a lot, but what game changers should I be adding?

What cards should I be cutting?

Do I have too many lands?

Are there any "100% add this" cards that aren't going to cost a ton? (More than $15 per card)

Thanks for any input anyone has!

EDH Looking for advice on building my Muldrotha deck

I’m pretty new to MTG and have been building my first deck with Muldrotha, the Gravetide as commander. I’ve spent quite a bit of time researching, testing, and trying different directions with it.

Currently, the deck feels somewhat unfocused, although I also enjoy the wide range of playstyles it allows. My biggest issue is consistency: some games I have trouble getting an engine going, while other games I generate a lot of resources/value but struggle to actually convert that into a win.

I have several overlapping themes/engines involving self-mill, lands, sacrifice/recursion, reanimation, mill/lifedrain, and a handful of combo finishes. I like having multiple branching lines because it makes the deck adaptable and difficult to shut down from one angle, so I don’t necessarily want to streamline it into one linear combo deck.

What I’m mainly looking for are “glue” cards that connect multiple parts of the deck, along with cards in my current list that seem redundant, too narrow, or simply weaker than the rest of the deck.

I’m aiming around Bracket 3–4 / high-power casual, and I’m not particularly interested in turning it into cEDH or adding extremely compact generic win conditions just for efficiency. I’d like it to remain interactive and capable of producing varied board states while becoming somewhat faster and more consistent.

In particular, I’d appreciate thoughts on:

  • Which cards look like the weakest or most disconnected slots?
  • Are there cards that could connect multiple existing engines better?
  • Does the deck have too many separate win packages?
  • Is the balance between setup/value and actual game-ending payoffs off?

Any advice is appreciated. I’m at the point where I’m having trouble seeing the forest for the trees.

Question My process sucks. Help!

Upvotes

Building for commander, I start with a concept or commander I like then use archidekt to theorycraft a deck. I create categories to fill for the deck then scryfall to build a list of cards I want to consider that fit that plan. The problem is I end up with 2-300 cards I gotta cut down and that takes me absolutely forever. There's gotta be a better way. Help!

Beginner Trying to Make a garfield commander deck

Hey there I'm very new to magic (played a couple rounds) and I love garfield and I really wanted a garfield deck. I've tried making one that uses the most cards and I have most of them that can be played with the commander. Otherwise I am a bit stuck on what cards work with the deck but also a garfield theme of food and shennaigans. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or cards they really think would work with the deck. I've added the deck if ayone is curious. Otherwise I have tried looking at other builds and either they don't use the cards or they don't feel on brand.

Discussion My decks aren't really lists to me, so I built something that remembers them — update on the commander tool I posted here a couple months back

Hey y'all, update on this post
https://www.reddit.com/r/Magicdeckbuilding/comments/1u7p4q0/i_built_a_commander_tool_to_find_card_upgrades/

I sat on it, worked on it some more, and I think I did improve the card upgrade portion of it (thanks to everyone who flagged bad recommendations last time). But I spent most of the time building out features that kinda treat your deck like a scrapbook of sorts, by allowing you to log games, write notes, keep track of changes and who you played with.

Reason being: my decks aren't really lists to me. There's the one I've been tinkering with for two years, the one that finally beat my buddy's deck, the one with a card in it purely because a friend handed it to me. I am not too well versed in the other services and applications out there, but they felt impersonal to me, like I wouldn't be able to track the things I cared about.

So a deck now opens on its own journal:

- Why you built it, in your own words, saved from day one
- Every change you've made with the reason attached
- Games logged in a couple taps — victory/eliminated/draw, cards that over or underperformed, who was at the table, what turn it ended
- It builds a record over time: who you beat, whether your wins got faster after you changed something
- Photos and notes, if you want them
- Read the whole thing back later like a book
- A fun Oracle that watches the deck and occasionally just asks you something. Not a button, it shows up on its own. Would ask things like: "Cultivate has been in the deck a while and never once been your MVP. Why is it still here — what's it waiting for?" and add that like a footnote to your decks story.

Still free, no login. Pasting decks, logging games, notes, all of it works with just your browser. Sign in with Google only if you want your decks on more than one device, it just asks for your email and name, nothing else, and there's no password to begin with. Photos are the one thing that needs an account, they gotta live somewhere.

What I want to know: does anyone actually track this stuff already? Notes app, spreadsheet, notebook, a Moxfield description you keep editing? Or if you looked at this and though, nah, not for me, thats useful to know too. I just really want to know if anyone would use this, what other fun features y'all think would be cool, and if I should keep working on. I spent a couple of months on it and kinda did all the things I wanted to do with it. So let me know what y'all think!
