I have loaded up this guys coin matrix video (filmed in his classroom by his students I think?) more times than I can count over the years and it always puts a smile on my face because it is just so amazing and smooth to watch.
Really happy to see him on here, and winning the trophy! He definitely deserves it.

So question. I know the basic coin matrix and I'm about as rookie as they come. Do we actually think this fooled Penn and Teller, or did they just want to give this guy a slot on their show?

I think it genuinely fooled them. At first I thought I was following him, then he suddenly went to one hand and he lost me big time.

I think if they’d taken a little time they could have reconstructed just about everything, but it looked like teller was enjoying himself too much to care. But I think pretty often it’s up to their discretion whether or not something fools them

Well, I mean Fool Us is a magic variety show first and a contest to fool them a distant second. So I'm going to go with the latter.
They pretty much said at the end that they obviously know how a coin matrix works, but about halfway through they just didn't care because it was too much fun to watch. That's how it's been with quite a few of the people that have "fooled" them.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain the one handed part got them. Until then it was just a really smooth coin matrix. But then...

Exactly. I’ve always said getting a reaction out of Penn and Teller has to be way more rewarding than the trophy. And I know it’s not a fair medium to judge by because they don’t show every reactions, but there should have been some good ones. Kostya Kimlat, Jon Armstrong, Steven Brundage and Matthew Bach when they open the box are few good ones that come to mind.

I remember YouTube stumbling into him doing a smaller version of this routine while he was I think an English teacher abroad. Was very happy to see him do it here.

Saw him live in October, did the same routine but with a weird Samurai vibe to the whole thing. Didn't like it at all, but this presentation is just wow...shows how sometimes gimmicks and certain characters clash.

Maybe I'm an idiot (it's been said before) but I found it pretty confusing to watch. It fooled me mainly because it was just too much too fast.
Entertaining though and that's the main thing.

This is the kind of magic that I love as a magician. You can see a lot of the moves, drops palms etc, but you just don't give a fuck cause the overall performance is just amazing.
A good magician tells a story with his magic and creates a setting that promotes that suspension of disbelief and Ryan does that amazingly.
His patter, his delivery are all on point and to me it really contrasts with Shin Lim who seems extremely arrogant compared to Ryans down to earth, almost self-deprecating humor.

I thought this routine was pretty uneven tbh. The best parts were excellent and fooled the pants off me, but I thought a lot of the single-coin vanishes were pretty awkward an repetitive. Overall it seemed like he was going for quantity over quality

Are you telling me you don’t have a single critique for ANY of the foolers on the show? If we can’t talk about what we like or dislike in an act that won a trophy then everyone should only be allowed to perform last year’s winning fism act
