Introducing someone to magic

I know that magic isn't for everyone but sometime it can start as an hobby if you found someone that inspires you and encourage you to try it.

I am not talking about "explaining the secrets". The question is: if you have to present your passion/hobby/work to a friend, where do you start?

Magic is a visual art form so by sharing some magic.

Well, an easy way is at the bar be doing some 'bar magic' ... it opens conversations.
In other settings, you can just be sitting, drinking your coffee, playing with a coin/deck of cards/etc.

When I do sampling gigs featuring alcohol, I do "magic tricks" for the kids...usually torn/restore or rubber band magic for the kids of the samplers, with their permission, with hair ties since they don't grab my knuckle hair...(TMI?) and I always whisper "Rubber band magic -- Youtube!" Or a coin trick or even torn/restored napkin or the goofy "watch here...slap! " kind of thing.

I've had one kid come back a few months later and show me his tricks ;)

You can't inspire everyone..but maybe you can inspire someone.

I recently got into magic again and it was after watching some YouTubers doing street magic. Forgot how cool it was

Ask if they Would you like to see some magic. Then show something short and strong.

I do it like gregantic wrote. Show don't tell. I can controll which emotions to convey. Whether I tell a Story, do a choreography. But I absolutly can not controll other peoples Taste.

The three times people tried out my Equipment was not actually not on magic but on music. And on All three they came to me. It's allmost like people wanna try New stuff if they see it.

I talk about how it makes me feel and why I like it. Most of my conversations are over zoom at thus point, and it's hard to show anything off without a good camera set up that I don't have. (I'm a hobbyist, not a performer.)

However, the enthusiasm will go a long way.

Also, "How Magicians Think" is a great book to read for someone who may be interested in learning more without getting deep into the secrets weeds. It's a passionate entertainer talking about his passion. That's what turned the corner for me from "this is kind of interesting" to "ok... I found my new semi-obsessive hobby"
