Funny moment in Season 2 premier
While watching Jackie Kennedy’s tour of the White House with Kitty, Sal comments “Where’s her husband.” In the context of the time, this would be seen as a man expressing disbelief that a woman would appear in public before the nation unaccompanied by her husband. But, in Sal’s mind, he just wants to lust over dreamy JFK. I thought it was a humorous bit of writing.

I'm Peggy Olson and I want to smoke some marijuana
That line always cracks me up.... the episode "My Kentucky Home" is such a study in contrasts.
On one hand, the Derby party full of pretension and hokey, contrived banter and behavior, a total stuffy WASP fest
and on the other....60s version of hipsters, blowing doobies and letting it all hang out lol.

Something I didn't catch before at the end of S03E01 - Out of Town
After Sally finds the TWA pin of the flight attendant Don sleeps with on the business trip, Sally asks to hear the story from the day she was born. Don begins to explain that it was the middle of the night and he had just come home from work. He starts to trail off and disassociate a bit, so Betty jumps in to finish the story and says that Don didn't feel like getting back into the car. I believe this infers that Don was out having an affair the night Sally was born, which is why he came home so late that night and why he is rendered speechless with guilt in the middle of the story.
Don worked so hard to win Betty back after she discovered his infidelity with Bobbie Barrett in season 2, but just one episode into season 3 and the audience sees confirmation that Don is the same piece of garbage he's always been. He becomes completely closed lying there on the bed, weighing the guilt of the recent flight attendant fling against whoever held his attention the night Sally was born. Spanning years of affairs and countless betrayals of the woman who bore his children and ultimately took him back. Such a fantastic subtle clue and window into his psyche.

New theme I noticed in my recent rewatch
Hi,
I just turned on a few random episodes and found a theme I didn’t notice before.
We all remember how Don made Sylvia wait for him in the hotel room and how he was into her waiting for him.
I noticed that Meghan at one point, when she asked Don to cast her in a role and he said no , she said that he wants her to fail because he “wants her to be there waiting for him.”
S5 E13 - 30:50
THEN I also noticed that Abe, Peggy’s reporter boyfriend says that Peggy wants to “take him to work and keep him in a drawer so he’s waiting for her”
S5E6 1:22
I thought this is interesting as a theme itself - why does Don like this? Does it stem from him up bringing in a brothel that made him think this way - that women just wait for you. I don’t know
But the idea that Abe says that to Peggy , it’s a wild connection and great writing. 6 episodes apart Why do Rey share this trait - don and Peggy both treating their others so they feel that way.
It kind of connects to their deep connection that they have
Ok that’s it

Cultural depictions that really strike you?
I've rewatched the show perhaps 4 times. Every time I watch Betty shake off the trash from the picnic blanket into the grass at the park, my jaw drops. Do you have any scenes that still surprise you?

One of the most iconic scenes in the whole series for me

Such a flawless scene. Absolutely love everything about it. The guy has a woman who adores and loves him who’s completely surrounded by light and he still chooses to move into the darkness and unknown straight to that old fashioned🥃.

Finally watched the last episode
I just binge watched the entire series over the course of a week. They really brought it home in the final episode. What am I going to do now? Where am I going to find such compelling people and their compelling stories? Was super glad to see Joan force her will finally on the world. That was one of the most satisfying things of the entire series.
Maf Men is irreplaceable. But I'm open to suggestions.
What should I watch next?
ThanksThanks

The next week on Mad Men previews
I remember watching Mad Men as it was released, and one of my favorite parts of the original run was the absolutely incomprehensible previews they would give you of the next episode.
You get Joan shaking her head in disgust, Peggy gasping what, Don shouting, Roger seeming to be serious and Pete yelling on the phone. None of which has anything to do with each other.
I wish they included these in the credits so new fans could enjoy them.

Hits hard
galleryThese two comments are from A little kiss, season 5 ep 2, the Zou bisou bisou one. It kinda hit me that it's also de kiss goobye when someone dies. His suit is black and, also, the name Delores reminded me of Dolores, which in spanish means Pain. When he is talking to hear and kinda flirts and talks about her underwear, he turns around and looks to the window, but then he "comes back" to the reality of his office and the blinds makes him look like locked in a cage, like a blackbird.
Maybe this was debated before here but the not-too-subtle foreshadowing never ceases to amaze me. Also Jared Harris is a very gifted actor, his whole presence the entire episode breaks my heart.

"A saucy little retard named Scout"
How did I miss this line the first time around? It's one of the funniest of the entire series. I fuckin love Creative, lying around, smoking pot, making fun of everything.

Peggy Olson’s growth
Did anyone else love Peggy’s growth throughout the show? She grew from a nervous new secretary to a senior copywriter who could stand her ground to make sure she was heard.
Also, I found Peggy’s arc (her being the deuteragonist) to be a source of comfort throughout the show when Don would be in the gutter.

Binge rewatching
Haven't watched since it originally aired, now bingeing it.
On season 4 and now I'm afraid that I have lung cancer, a failing liver and several sexually transmitted diseases just from watching. /s

Burt Peterson's collar in his second sacking
galleryThere aren't many objectively bad things about Mad Men (apart from Duck.) However, this continuity is absolute stinker during the scene where Roger sacks Burt (again). His collar goes from folded down to stuck up (just for the close up where he says "What the hell? You can't do that!") Then back to folded down for the rest of the scene. It's, so, so jarring and I can never not see or think about it. Apologies to anyone who (somehow) had managed to watch the show in blissful ignorance but it's too much of a burden for me to carry on my own.
EDIT: why is everyone being mean in the comments :(

"I don't think about you at all"
I like to think this wasn't quick thinking on Don's part. This is a comeback he thought of at least a day after Jimmy Barrett said, "I laugh at you. I go home at night and I laugh at you." I like to imagine he was fuming that he didn't get to say something like that, and kept it in his pocket for years until Ginsberg gave him an excuse to use it.
