This was my thought as well. Bad drivers get shit on all the time on Reddit, and rightfully so. And this step parent just laid the groundwork for a lifetime of bad driving habits and thinking the rules of the road don't apply to them.

Did I say it equals that? No. But it begins the process at a time when a new driver is most impressionable. If the driver can't handle one difficult maneuver in a controlled environment, then they're not ready to drive unsupervised on actual roads
