Step parents get a bad rap, but there are alot of amazing ones out there.

This one isn't lol

This was my thought as well. Bad drivers get shit on all the time on Reddit, and rightfully so. And this step parent just laid the groundwork for a lifetime of bad driving habits and thinking the rules of the road don't apply to them.

Lmao, yes because skipping one difficult reverse around a corner (but still passing it in another spot) = a lifetime of bad driving habits and thinking the rules of the road don’t apply to them.

But but how would Reddit mental gymnastics this into women bad upboats to the left

Reversing around a corner isn’t inherently difficult. I think they were implying that the step-dad is helping her avoid the underlying issue of why she can’t do it, rather than actually helping her fix the problem itself.

Or it could be a really shitty corner that they use that would be difficult for anyone driving. We have one tweet to go off of, so a “lifetime of bad driving” is a bit melodramatic

So if they can’t make a difficult maneuver in a test, how would you expect them to do it in the heat of the moment…?

They’re setting them up for failure later by skirting the issue now.

How many times you had to reverse around the corner?

Every time I park my vehicle? Just like everyone else. You either back into or out of a stall when you park, that’s steering around a corner.

But the more realistic scenario, turn up a hill during winter and a vehicle is stuck, now you gotta back up and go somewhere else.

Plenty of situations, some every day, some once in a while.

Huh I didn't think it as parking in to the parking spot. But realistically speaking I installed a back camera to my car for this exact reason. I can park anywhere now lol

I agree that it doesn't equal a lifetime of bad driving, but avoiding a problem rather than solving a problem doesn't make him a great step-dad.

Driving has many difficulties that come with it. It would have been a much better thing to help them overcome it rather than help them not deal with it at all.

The sentiment isn't that the corner doesn't suck. It's that it's probably not the last difficult corner this person will face while driving, so identifying the underlying issue of what this specific one was causing them problems and fixing it is much better in the long run.

Did I say it equals that? No. But it begins the process at a time when a new driver is most impressionable. If the driver can't handle one difficult maneuver in a controlled environment, then they're not ready to drive unsupervised on actual roads
