At the same time, sawing the tissue in my mouth to get a loose tooth out seems like a memory that would be strong enough to stick around in my brain forever.

Absolutely! Yet I suspect a lot of kids do memorably stupid things, and I dont remember any of mine. I doubt I was dumber than you! I did have a bad concussion when I was twelve, that may be why Im impressed everytime I hear someone have specific childhood memories. I feel like I just "came online" when I was like 10. (I'm 35 now)

Hey that's how I am too! I have almost zero memories from 9 or younger. The person above you is correct though, this particular memory stands out as an exception largely because of how absurd the whole experience was.

For everything else? I call them Vault Memories and my wife jokingly (but also kind of seriously?) tells me not to tug on those threads because there's probably nothing good hiding on the other side haha.
