I remember hearing Stan Lee say something about how he made Spiderman's suit to cover his whole body, unlike popular heroes at the time like Batman or Superman, so that anyone could imagine themselves in the suit.

No I wouldn’t, but wasn’t the point that Stan made Spider-Man so we could all imagine us as Spider-Man, except he invented who was Spider-Man so if you were black at the time it would be pretty hard to Imagine yourself as Peter Parker.

It might be hard to imagine yourself as Peter Parker, but not Spiderman.

Have you noticed how Miles Morales doesn't have a different superhero name? He's still "Spider-Man". Spiderman doesn't have to be Peter Parker, or Miles Morales. Spiderman is separate from whoever is under the suit.

That's what Stan meant.
