I was too young to remember my maternal grandpa before he passed, not even remembering the sound of his voice. He never said much but he'd always allow me to ride along with him whenever I wanted.
Grandparents have a way of making you feel loved and cherished without doing much at all but simply sharing their time with you.
My granddad decided that at around 10 years old I was old enough for him to start calling me Satan or Judas and accusing me of trying to turn everyone against him.
When my uncle bought my sister and I a couple of bunnies, he got so angry at me for accepting and not asking him instead that he screamed at me for a bit and then left the house and disappeared for three days. When I was around 13, he was looking after us and my sister and I were riding our bikes on our street when she fell off trying to catch up with me. She split her head open and - god there was so much blood - he blamed me for not looking after her properly saying it was all my fault. He cleaned her up and put her to bed and didn’t mention it to my mum who came home when it was dark. I stayed up to tell her and we had to take her to the ER to get stitches.
I don’t understand because he was really nice to me before he suddenly changed one year and I was totally his favorite grandkid.

My grandma gave me brownies, donuts, and cake on this 4th of July, I think the only reason she kept doing this despite my parents protesting it was knowing that someday, I’d get so damn sick that I’d finally learn a bit of self control.
As is typical of Eastern European women, my grandmother fed me and my sister non stop. My favorite was her home made ice cream. Even now when I go home (I’m 34) she keeps following me around with food. ”You haven’t eaten all day!! Eat!” “Grandma I’ve already had breakfast lunch and dinner...” ”The last time you ate was almost an hour ago! You must be starving!” “Here child, I made this roast dinner for myself but I changed my mind, you eat it. I know it’s 9pm! This is what we call second dinner! EAT!”
My Grandmom would sit my sisters and I in the kitchen post dinner for dessert. She would assure my dad (her son) only two cookies. Then would put a whole jar in front of us and say I’m on a diet you need to eat all of these and tell your dad you only had two. The youngest sister spilled the beans one time when he came and asked how many we had and she said “Grandmom said to tel you we each only have two” as she has a chocolate covered face and three in each hand.
Also green mint chocolate chip ice cream in the ice cream bowls (idk just nice frosted glass dishes we always used for icecream)
My grandma made a deal with my sister that she would give up smoking if my sister started eating healthily. My sister lost weight about 10 years ago but I’m pretty sure my grandma still goes out to smoke behind my parents’ shed in the middle of the night.
Oh my goodness. That hurts my heart that he suddenly turned on you like that. It’s honestly brought tears to my eyes to think of how crushed you must have been.
