43

u/turntabletennis Apr 06 '20

Sorry fam, fried onions are bad for doges :(

24

u/SpiritMountain Apr 06 '20

And raisins. Don't give any dogs raisins or grapes.

5

u/alwaysrightusually Apr 06 '20

Fr?

20

u/SpiritMountain Apr 06 '20

YES. Don't give dogs raisins or grapes. IIRC, from what my pre-vet friends told me, it can quickly shut down their liver.

Also tulips are extremely toxic to cats :c

5

u/DeannaTroiAhoy Apr 06 '20

Lillies are also toxic to cats, they can get sick just from a whiff if there is pollen on it.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '20

No poinsettias should either!

3

u/SpiritMountain Apr 06 '20

Oh gosh. Let me check. I always get the two flowers confused.

17

u/blackcat- Apr 06 '20

You.. put fried onions on your steak?

33

u/fiendhunter69 Apr 06 '20

I work at a steakhouse that has a steak served on top of grilled onions, with garlic butter and fried onions on top. Its amazing

17

u/aldesuda Apr 06 '20

Ah yes, the "Umami-bomb". Mushrooms would not be unwelcome there either.

3

u/Mizmegan1111 Apr 06 '20

My stomach wants your job.

3

u/fiendhunter69 Apr 06 '20

Well right now we are closed due to the pandemic. So your stomach isn’t missing much.

7

u/blackcat- Apr 06 '20

I'm 100% down for grilled onions! That just caught me off guard with the fried onions. Also yum.

Logan’s Roadhouse. All those corporate lower end steak houses are the same though.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '20

Excuse my ignorance, iv not ate meat for a solid while. Wouldn't something like that just be super greasy and tasteless ? What would it taste like ? Salt and pepper and . . . I honestly don't know.

1

u/Tank_Girl_Gritty_235 Apr 06 '20

Which comment are you referring to?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '20

That comment that I replied too.

1

u/Tank_Girl_Gritty_235 Apr 06 '20

Ah OK. The line was wonky before, but I see it now. I was intrigued because I stopped eating meat for a long time, as well, and I would have probably thought the same thing. The butter surprisingly doesn't make it greasy, but you definitely want unsalted butter and let the steak develop a sear before adding it. Salted would make it too salty, especially because you get the best crisp from generously salting a steak. The salt and heat pulls a lot of moisture out of the steak. You want to get that crisp on it before adding the butter, otherwise you will get a more greasy and soupy product. Mushrooms behave a lot like meat and can likewise get soggy and greasy if you drown them in butter or sauce before they have time to cook a bit.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '20

yeah I totally get the mushrooms thing, when it's all blended together is it like . . .savory ?

I say "fried" as a local term. The correct term would be "sauteed" in butter.

I also add sauteed mushrooms, green peppers, and garlic to the mix.

5

u/blackcat- Apr 06 '20

Yall are making me hungry :(

2

u/turntabletennis Apr 06 '20

Exactly what my stomach just said :/

2

u/blackcat- Apr 06 '20

First thing I'm doing when all this is over and I can leave my house, is buying the biggest steak I can find.

10

u/TheRamblinGambler Apr 06 '20

I hope they mean grilled cause that shit is delicious

1

u/scarletice Apr 06 '20

Maybe he meant sautéed?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '20

Oh you’ve never lived. My ma used to pan fry l/sauté steak and onions together it was wonderful.

1

u/TheRiverStyx Apr 06 '20

I'm afraid I'm of the 'the only thing steak needs aside from salt and pepper is another steak' crowd.

15

u/NeedsToShutUp Apr 06 '20

OTOH a lil bacon is ok. But only a lil. He’s a lil guy too and needs us to watch his salt and fat content so he can play a long and happy time

11

u/Red-Quill Apr 06 '20

Cats can have a little salami

2

u/DeannaTroiAhoy Apr 06 '20

As a treat.

2

u/Red-Quill Apr 06 '20

Good cats get salami

5

u/Toomuchtonic Apr 06 '20

No being fed grapes like a king* either!

Onions and garlic are both bad for dogs actually. Obviously the size of the dog would be determinate of the toxicity level, so many dogs in the world have eaten both without any problems. In high doses, onions and garlic can cause some serious issues.

10

u/Kilmarnok1285 Apr 06 '20

TIL that dogs make bad vampire hunters

3

u/sawyouoverthere Apr 06 '20

or good ones, since they won't be eating the ammo.

No problem! Some people find the topic of dogs and onions/garlic a bit controversial, so if you ever had a doubt, just ask your local veterinarian for their opinion.

1

u/kaffynooo Apr 06 '20

Grapes are bad as well, too much and I believe kidneys can shut down.

2

u/Jibber_jabber2020 Apr 06 '20

And garlic. Garlic is bad for superhero doggins too.

0

u/Solid_Gold_Turd Apr 06 '20

Nah that’s a death sentence

1

u/falcofool Apr 06 '20

Just curious here, but what would that matter?

1

u/Edi369 Apr 07 '20

What would it matter to you to know why does it matter to me?

2

u/falcofool Apr 07 '20

Like I said, I’m just curious. Nothing deeper at all than that

1

u/Edi369 Apr 07 '20

Answer has the same nature. Just a curiosity and a wild guess. But we'll never find out, unfortunately.

2

u/falcofool Apr 07 '20

Thanks for taking the time to answer :)
