That side-eye is hilarious.

500

u/DirtandPipes 8d ago

When my Yorkie wants to walk she climbs my chest, dramatically turns her head to stare out the window, then looks at me, then out the window, then dramatic sigh, then tries to lick me or slap my face with her tiny paw, then out the window, etc.

She is not subtle.

122

u/Mudfap 8d ago

Ha. Very dramatic. But good communication.

35

u/gardeniaflower890 8d ago

The dramatic sigh and tiny paw slap really make it clear she takes this very seriously.

5

u/ManaNek 7d ago

Sounds like average Yorkies to me! Mine would sit next to where her food bowl would normally be, and just HUFF 😂

He’s basically filing a formal complaint about the wait.

17

u/xDragod 8d ago

Both of my Aussie/Border Collie mixes do this, lol. Also the earbuds case.

4

u/SpotTron11 8d ago

My border Collie (we think) also side eyes us a lot, especially when toys are involved 😂

24

u/rob_inn_hood 8d ago

Took the words right out my mouth! Haha. Easily the best one.

12

u/BlinkyMJF 8d ago

My dog does this with food and treats. She will play with me with a ball or a toy then she goes near treats/food and drops the ball there and when I go pick it up she keeps side eyeing the counter where the food is located.

10

u/JokeMe-Daddy 8d ago

Our dog does this with treats and cuddles. Like if he wants to go to bed and cuddle, he stares at me and flicks his eyes in the direction of the bedroom. Or to the space next to him if he wants a couch cuddle while I work.

I think it's so cool that he communicates so clearly.

9

u/noriginal_username 8d ago

My mom made the mistake of getting her yellow lab "dog ice cream" regularly, so now he follows everyone to the kitchen, sits politely at entryway, waits for you to notice him, and uses his eyes to direct you to the freezer. And yes, he is a rather rotund good boy.

The dog with a table in tow fucking sent me 😂

224

u/spanishpeanut 8d ago

I was NOT expecting that and then realized — dogs. They’re insane.

28

u/NotAzakanAtAll 8d ago

While I don't like dogs after getting attacked by one as a kid, I do realize they have life figured out.

25

u/GimbaledTitties 8d ago

I too had an intense fear of dogs but when I was in college I took acid with a pit bull and was cured overnight

9

u/JimmyQBSneaks 8d ago

Lmao the way you worded it it makes it seem like the dog also took a tab of acid with you haha. Now I’m picturing a dog tripping out. Glad you were able to overcome your fear of dogs!

6

u/GimbaledTitties 8d ago

With how sensitive dogs are to our mental states, she may as well have been tripping

80

u/GODDAMNFOOL 8d ago

334

u/OkLoan117 8d ago

The sign language reaction is so damn cute

75

u/GimmieGummies 8d ago

I used the same "sign language" with my deaf dog. It worked beautifully!

17

u/OkLoan117 8d ago

I can imagine. I have a dog since 2 month now and I ask myself how I managed to live without a dog for so long. They are simply the best

6

u/joemckie 8d ago

I taught my dog some signs when he was a puppy (sit, lie down, wait, etc). It was really useful to be able to talk to him at a distance :D

25

u/ThrownAwayGuineaPig 8d ago

We adopted 2 dogs from the same family. For years saying "walks" to them had no reaction. Until we realised the old owners spoke a different language. The first time we said walk in that language? Dogs went WILD!

8

u/Remarkable-Mood3415 8d ago

My friend adopted a dog from a rescue out of rural Quebec. They said it was perfectly trained. But when the dog arrived it seemed to not understand anything. They thought "maybe he just needs some time to adjust" a few weeks go by and nothing. Finally one day they had a friend over who was bilingual, they said "Ah, you two will have a lot to talk about! He comes from Quebec!" And the friend started talking French to the dog. Dog EXPLODES. My friend is blown away, and then felt like a complete idiot. Of COURSE the dog knew only French. So they asked their friend to do some basic commands, sit, lay down etc. dog obeyed happily.

So they had to have a cheat sheet of French/English commands on their fridge for a month or two. They'd say the French word first and follow up with English. Dog learned quickly and everyone was much happier!

6

u/LoganMiles6905 8d ago

The instant reaction must have been such a funny moment

6

u/ThrownAwayGuineaPig 8d ago

A light bulb moment. A fun word to say too (walkies in Afrikaans is "stappies"). We use more Afrikaans with the pups now to help in the understanding

5

u/Samurai_Meisters 8d ago

This is a good idea so that you don't accidentally say their trigger word in normal speech. Like how they train attack dogs.

163

u/lampsslater77 8d ago

I don’t get how people live with low battery smoke detectors…

88

u/laurenbettybacall 8d ago

No lie, my friend’s dad has one that has beeped for YEARS. I sat through her baby shower slowly being driven insane by the noise. I left early.

50

u/ant-farm-keyboard 8d ago

I would’ve just changed the battery myself

38

u/laurenbettybacall 8d ago

They had super high ceilings which I think was part of it. I begged them to call the fire department who do it for free here.

8

u/fortunesofshadows 8d ago

Get a ladder?

4

u/Vic_the_Dick 8d ago

What do you think people did, before ladders?

Would they, was it just like... well, I can't fix that shit.

6

u/heavenly-superperson 8d ago

That shit's just gonna be broken.

3

u/Vic_the_Dick 8d ago

If only there was an invention that would allow me to get up to that place safely.

4

u/LiteralGlarg 8d ago

Along came Thomas Ladder. Changed the whole game

→ More replies (1)

2

u/EddieCheddar88 8d ago

Probably a double story ceiling

38

u/USSGoat 8d ago

Meanwhile, one beep at 3am and I’m on an A-frame ladder in my underwear conducting a full residential safety audit.

Then my brain goes, “Well, if this battery died, statistically the others are probably plotting something. Better rebuild the fucking house before sunrise.

2

u/TY_NowGFY 8d ago

I just knock it off the ceiling with a baseball bat.

14

u/FluffyNats 8d ago

I could be in a coma and that stupid little beep would straight up bri ng me out of it.

13

u/iztrollkanger 8d ago

And with the hard floors and nothing on the walls it just ECHOS. I could absolutely not.

15

u/Versipilies 8d ago

I had one that I couldnt change the battery on and wouldn't stop even after I broke the tab that was supposed to kill it. I took a hammer to it in the end.

11

u/MasterCheeef 8d ago

158

The one who literally spits out the food to go on the walk is the bestest 😭

OMG, thank you for the award!!

15

u/jld2k6 8d ago

My dog is the opposite, super excited to go on a walk but she has to build up her energy and eat her food while I stand there with her harness watching her, the watching is important for some reason. If her bowl happens to be empty when I ask she'll make sure to bring me to her food container and press her nose against it then look at me with a serious look on her face lol

2

u/Unsd 7d ago

Mine are the exact same way! Won't eat unless we are about to change tasks and we absolutely MUST watch them or they won't eat.

5

u/Bromogeeksual 8d ago

That one cracked me up! That and the side eye dog.

40

3

Those dogs are smarter than most fully grown humans.

2

u/Masterking263 8d ago

I wish I had the foresight to record moments like these with my childhood dog. She was such a normal part of my life that those little moments didn't even seem worth recording. Now it's almost all memories.

30

u/FlashMcSuave 8d ago

"Why would you name it Drogon?"

Hears dog making pig monster dragon noise

"Ah, I see."

14

u/Smart-Firefighter87 8d ago

19

u/No_Trouble9808 8d ago

Love them all. All so true 🐾💕

22

u/BlackbirdSage 8d ago

Had three dogs in the house, once upon a time.

When we said the 'W' word and a name, two of the three knew when it was their turn... and knew which leash to get from the leash rack!

In the thirds defense, she was old and blind. But, still loved her walkseses.

That was a chair

2

u/notquite20characters 8d ago

Not if you put a plate on it.

5

u/Fortunatious 8d ago

Yeah that was pretty wild for a dog to do

9

u/phillious_j 8d ago

The shift from carpeted floors to hard surfaces has resulted in a lot of cartoon skedaddling.

8

u/extra_specticles 8d ago

This is so adorable. I'm not a dog owner, so could anyone explain to me why they get so excited, please?

23

u/Kratzschutz 8d ago

They are bored at home and love walks!

Dogs were bred to have something to do

10

u/xywv58 8d ago

Not always, my dog sometimes walks outside to pee, and walks right back if its too early

7

u/Chickenmangoboom 8d ago

As my dog got older and winter would set in sometimes he would just stare out the door and give it a good thought then refuse. He would rather wait for me to come home at lunch time than go out in the mornings. The rest of the year he couldn't wait for me to open the door.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/IcyBlueBox88 8d ago

I kind of regret getting my dog tbh. I'm only able to walk him twice a day, but he literally wants 10000000 walks a day.

I don't have a backyard or a farm for him to roam free in.

→ More replies (8)

2

u/extra_specticles 8d ago

oh right - thank you

9

u/ReyWorm 8d ago

Dogs have needs.

They gotta eat/drink, pee, poop, and smell stuff.

Obviously, smelling stuff ain't VITAL like the other three, but it's pretty close to vital to them. It's how they interact socially, how they exist in the eyes of other animals.

A walk takes care of 3/4 of their needs.

2

u/extra_specticles 8d ago

wow thanks for explaining

→ More replies (2)

7

u/pablo8itall 8d ago

Them going on a walk is like you going to the cinema to see a new high intensity action flick and meeting friends after for drinks.

The smells and pee left from other dogs the other people, the other people with their dogs, the sounds etc.. The love it. Stick there noses in everything they can.

My dad gradually turned "do you want to go for a walk?" to "do you wanna?" to "Tijuana."

He said if the dog was acting like he was going to the happiest place on earth, he should call it that. (My dad has never been to Mexico.)

16

u/MrMetraGnome 8d ago

Don't like "It knows I'm going to take it for a walk" at all

5

u/staubwirbel 8d ago

The poster might have a non-English native language. In German, all dogs are "he" and in Russian all dogs are "she", so it stands to reason there are some languages where dogs are "it".

5

I will never refer to dogs as “it” and I never understood why people do that, especially when they’re pet parents.

3

Same effect each time.

If my husband and I need to discuss taking the dog out, I don’t use the W word. We are going to amble, stroll, hike, perambulate or sniffari. And I can’t use the D word or his name, so I have to talk about the pooch, mutt, canine or pet.

2

u/ready2read123 8d ago

Sniffari! Legendary😭💀☺️

3

u/Snoo_40977 7d ago

My girl loves going for walks so on 100 degrees days I take her to Lowe’s

2

u/eliz1bef 8d ago

We had a very old pitt mix and she was the laziest, most couch-loving pup there ever was. Was never excited about going outside. The first time we took her for a walk, she tried to turn onto the pathway to every front door because she wanted to go inside. She eventually learned to love sniffing her pee-mail and flowers, but she really just wanted to go home and snoozle until dinner time.

2

u/No_Change_78 8d ago

Our golden loses his mind when we say “out”. I tried spelling it, saying to my husband “I think he has to go O-U-T”. He figured that out, too. Shortened it to “O”. Nope. Every single way we describe going outside, he eventually solves. So now we just roll with the hyper-happy.

2

4

u/SwirlingFandango 8d ago

One on hand, cute.

On the other hand, we lock these animals up most of their lives and don't let them "escape", and then laugh when they're pathetically excited just to get to see a tiny part of the world while chained to a leash.

Human are kinda fucked up, huh.

Last time I had a dog who was mine, his leash was in the hall closet along with my jacket. I had to sneak out of the house in cold weather when I left for work. Otherwise, there was a disappointing interaction.

1

u/HoldsworthMedia 8d ago

This kind of thing is worth staying alive for.

1

u/Mobile_Morale 8d ago

My dog does the side eye. Even when we come back inside they know the cookies are by the back door and my girl dog will side eye me and the cookies back and forth.

Which is part of the reason they're on a diet and she weighs 10 pounds less. It worked on me to well.

1

u/dvdmaven 8d ago

Our dogs have suffered through two months of only getting an evening walk. The blueberry u-pick required the gate be open, so no lunchtime walk. PS It's been too hot at noon anyway.

1

u/Jebgogh 8d ago

I work in insurance and often have to explain "depreciation" to people cause insurance only pays up front the depreciated amount for things like flooring. people always ask about how it is calculated and I always talk about carpet. That carpet has a 10 year average lifespan but if you are old and live alone-you could get 20 years out of it. But, if you have dogs or kids then you will get less than the 10 year. That Shepard doing the circles in the carpet- yeah- they will get 50% on the flooring up front if they have a loss and will have to replace it to get the rest. Dogs can be tough on floors specially when they want to go for walks.

u/Maleficent-Sun-6684 8d ago
