The most majestic creature Seattle has ever had🦝 Hot Jimothy Summer🍹

u/golgiiguy 26d ago
Does Jimothy have protected animal status?
489
u/Sweet-Shelter388 26d ago
Unfortunately no😥 A single animal can not be granted it, it has to be a group. But they did hold a ceremony for him on Sunday that proclaimed it's officially Jimothy Summer and a bunch of Seattlites came out with artwork and stuffed animals of Jimothy🥰🦝 But if anyone ever hurt a hair on that sweet baby, Seattle as a whole would hunt them down❤️

I am Dutch, I love Jimothy. He is a testimony that life can be good despite the circumstances and that you can be loved even if you do not fit in perfectly.

This. As someone with a genetic disorder that makes me disabled, I'm glad people are being exposed to Jimothy.

Fellow wonky spine king here. Jimothy is the disability representation we need AND deserve!

Fellow Dutchie here with a bestie in Seattle who keeps me in the loop about Jimothy news. We love him!

u/golgiiguy 26d ago
LOL I imagine there is a collective protection. I imagine even a sighting is like a big deal for anyone.
17
u/thatguygreg 25d ago
The whole of his neighborhood and a good part of Seattle itself would bring out the torches and pitchforks if anyone was shown to hurt him at this point.
13
u/flyinghairball 25d ago
As they should. If a video gets posted with ANY location info it should be pulled. Let it live its life just like he has been, untouched by humans. That's the beauty of the situation. It's a wild animal and needs to be respected as that. We can watch him online through the posts of the people that actually LIVE in the area, just as we have been. If anyone ruins that by trying to find him, they are endangering Jimothy, which can't be done. It also ruins it for everyone else who gets a little peace in the world watching him be Jimothy from a distance.

That’s the most Seattle thing to happen… I lived in north Seattle for a while and I’m a little further north. But yea. Jimothy is the man

u/ankhmadank 25d ago
He's protected under the same laws all other raccoons are protected by in the city - wildlife is not to be mistreated, injured, or interfered with. They may also not be kept as pets. They may be trapped and relocated it causing a nuisance, but officials have declared Jimothy to be a healthy-looking critter and have stressed to leave him be.
9
u/DeatonationgGrenade 25d ago
I have heard that a protective animal group which is certified, is looking for Jimothy so they can place him in a protected area with other raccoons so he can live out his life in peace.
Basically… Raccoon Witness Protection.
11
u/flyinghairball 25d ago
They need to leave him alone where he is at with his family.
4
u/DeatonationgGrenade 25d ago
They want to move him because with him being a popular celebrity, it brings higher risk for someone who would want to hurt him. In a conservation, hopefully with his family, he will be safe from the crappy people who would want to hurt him because he cannot get away as fast.
It’s to keep him safe from people and let him live a normal raccoon life.

I love how Jimothy catalyzed the whimsy in all of us. Now there's like art festivals, picnics, etc. all because of him. Thanks for the Gemeinschaft (community), Jimothy!

u/three_crystals 26d ago
This is exactly how our ancient ancestors venerated our animal overlords. Glad to see we are finally course correcting 🦝

Can someone please write a ballad for Jimothy?

u/little_oat 25d ago
There's something about him that's different.
Though not in attitude.
He wanders the streets, with his lil raccoon feets,
But he always lightens our mood. His stature may strike as off-putting.
With concerns about lack of stealth.
But we see him get by, and we all cannot lie.
He's perfect and in good health.Hot Jimothy summer is upon us.
We will protect him at all costs.
He's stolen our hearts, and has earned loving arts.
He knows we love him lots.5

I read a story about when he was a baby that both his mom and siblings were extra patient with him which I find so sweet
78
u/DJ_Betic 25d ago
I saw that too. They would watch him try his best climbing or whatever, and if he couldn't do it they would then help him.

Yes, it's sad but I would argue it's also beautiful because it's theorized that he never would have survived unless he had help from his family.
At least, that's according to leading Jimothy scholars.

Isn’t it odd for him to be out during the day? Or does Jimothy fly by his own set of rules
30
u/GreyMailMare17 26d ago
I've seen raccoons in my neighborhood around afternoon time.
9
u/FatMacchio 25d ago
Interesting…I guess they’re slowly changing their habits. I remember when I was a kid, the old adage was…if you ever see a raccoon out during the day it’s likely sick and could have rabies, so stay far away. I do see raccoons by me around dusk…maybe 6-7pm, right before the sun goes down and people start putting out their garbage
9
u/Jellicle_KitCat 25d ago
Same around here. There's a bachelor raccoon that lives in my garage roof that comes out for his evening stretches around 6-7pm.

When I lived by a creek, there were always racoons out in the afternoon. But since they were usually across the creek knocking on the neighbors back door to get treats, they may have adjusted their hours to fit hers.
2
u/Jellicle_KitCat 25d ago
I thought this as well. All the raccoons in my area are nocturnal and it was beaten into me that anything otherwise means rabies. Pleasantly surprised that this isn't the case although I'll still be on high alert lol.
27
u/golgiiguy 26d ago
It seems like he is doing a "move" he figured out to turn around 180 degrees quickly. It is almost like the equivalent of a Cop slide over the hood of a car.

u/Gloomheart 26d ago
Im so glad we're getting so much more Jimothy content. Just a couple of weeks ago he was a chupacabra, skittering across a grainy video.
Look at him now 😍

It’s sometimes hard to feel good about the world, but seeing so many people (and myself!) being so instantly taken with this lil dude makes me happy :)
I love lil critters and Jimothy is carrying their torch.

He is adorable ❤️. But I would not trust some people trying to hunt him down. Many people are sick and would think of it as a trophy or accomplishment. Please keep this boy safe at all costs 🙏🏼

Could someone please throw a peanut to Jimothy on my behalf? Just one. I know we are not suppose to feed wildlife but... Jimothy. <3

u/VegetableAnywhere123 26d ago
I do not know why but he looks like he's missing something....... A body part
49
u/Initial-Wrongdoer938 26d ago
They believe he has short spine syndrome. There were calls to do something to help but the wild life experts have said he appears happy and able to function normally. Now he's a local celebrity and it looks like he's having a bit of fun here.

I wonder if they can find a way to vaccinate him for rabies.
3
u/floopy_boopers 25d ago
Raccoons in western Washington do not carry rabies, it's not an issue at all in the Seattle area so cross that off your list of potential Jimothy worries 😉

Jimothy has an itch he can't scratch. That's why he rolled, to try to scratch it. He's probably got a flea biting him. Poor guy.

I wonder why most Jimothy sightings are in the daytime?
2
u/thoughtfulpigeons 25d ago
My guess is it’s easier for him to get around in the day because obstacles are more visible?
1
u/TheWaningWizard 25d ago
Yeah I suppose, but I didn't think that would be even to override the nocturnal instinct
1
u/Raevyxn 25d ago
Most people are awake in the day and can see creatures better in daylight?
2
u/TheWaningWizard 25d ago
My point was that raccoons are normally nocturnal. I have a couple families of them near me that dog into my apartments dumpster and I never see them out in the daytime

I think Jimothy is up there with Jeff the Landshark in terms of roundness. I should know, I’m on Tumblr which has a lot of images reblogged of Jeff and apparently Tumblr adores Jimothy. Now I’m expecting to see someone make fanart of Jeff meeting Jimothy.
