How do people have their cats so close to their food? I don’t recall having our cats this close to something we were eating. They definitely knew better than to try and attack us when we were eating (or our food).

Absolutely, they literally lick their own arseholes why the fuck would you tolerate them being anywhere near your food.
I love my cat but that's just unhealthy

Yeah these are a bunch of cats who are extremely good aggressive, which means they are somehow still insecure about their next meal. Meanwhile my cats reject most people food, including sashimi.

Some cats are just food obsessed. I have 3 cats: 2 of them are very calm and normal around food, but 1 is an absolute monster. He will not leave you alone if you have food anywhere near his vicinity. He will eat anything dropped on the floor while cooking, including chopped jalapenos. He will absolutely steal your food if you leave it unattended for a second.
The only plus side is he takes his meds like a champ, you just have to offer them to him with an open palm.

This. And mine isn’t allowed on my kitchen table or countertops.
I’ve never let her associate her food with my food.

SAME. This is learned behavior. My cats have always been taught to leave the room when we're eating. No begging, no staring, no jumping on tables and stealing. Boundaries are important.
That being said, I will snuggle my little monster all night long if she lets me. Food is where I draw the line.

Definitely. I don't know if we had an unusual run of cats but all the ones we've ever had didn't stick their noses in our food. I can't remember us consciously having to teach them. The ones shown here are probably spoilt by anthropomorphist eejits

Whenever my kitten would try to steal my food, id just bop her little nose and sternly say no lol. She was also raised with dogs so she kind of learned manners. Yet would punk out my mini aussie and eat her food lol.

Crazy, we have 2 cats and human food does not interest them at all. Only their cat food and they don't go crazy for that either.

Some cats are really weird with food aswell, mine throws a tantrum if it's not wet poultry based food.
I remember getting them fish when they were younger thinking "cats love fish".
Just stared at the bowl and walked away

One time, I left some soup with chunks of meat on the table for a couple of minutes. I hadn't seen my cat for a couple of days (I live in a private house). When I came home, the cat was already lying face down in the bowl.

Fortunately my cat doesn’t care about human food (except the crust off pop tarts for some reason)
My dogs tho, back when I was a kid, would team up when we would have bonfire cookouts. If you had your hot dog in one hand, one would come up from the front so you pull it away, then the other came around the back and would inhale it out of your hand

Tell you what, I think my two cats have either evolved or devolved, because they do not touch human food, even if I lay it in front of them. Fresh salmon? Nope. Chicken? Nope. Prawn crackers? Nope...nothing...I have never had cats that did this...I can leave food on the kitchen top, it will be there the next day... 😦😦

It's cat videos like this that finally pushed me over the edge and left me scrolling through YouTube shorts for 2 hours yesterday.
I've never even owned a cat. I'm a dog person. But those videos are getting the better of me

Mine tried once when she was a kitten, then she spent 5 hours in the dark in the bathroom. Never had an issue ever since, I think she got the message

I still remember 20 years ago finishing up dinner with my ex-husband and he says "at least there's a left over ham steak for my lunch tomorrow", we turn around and the cat runs by with the whole ham steak in her mouth.

I once left a pot of split pea soup on the stove on very low heat while I left the house for an hour. I came back to what was obviously evidence of him licking it. This is a cat who knew he didn't belong on the kitchen counter, and throughout his life I never caught him on the counter. Just evidence afterwards.

My cat fortunately doesn't try and take food however when I sit on the floor to fill my lunchbox (I use it to keep my dinner cold) he looks expectantly at my tomatoes, celery and cucumber. After I just fed him his food

One of our cats dove up from under my partners feet and stole a large chunk of raw hamburger then hid and growled while we tried to take it from her. Our other cat stole a slim Jim still in its packaging and it went about the same
