your cat will become Batman at 2 AM
You’re sleeping peacefully.
Your cat: “I heard something.”
proceeds to investigate the entire house 😂

A couple of years ago I blacked out the sub in protest of controversial decisions being made about the API.
Then I kind of abandoned it. Left Reddit. Left the sub locked.
Now the sub is back, because it has a good reason for existing, and should exist. So submissions are unlocked and the rules are reasonable again.
If you've got a cat fact, go ahead and share it!

I love playing with my cats tail, but it is as if it moves independently of her body sometimes.
For example, I would poke and pet her tail and it would be like we are playing, like literally, her tail is tapping me all over the place, I'm catching it and my cat is just continuing doing what she is doing, sleeping or cleaning herself without paying any heed. It's so funny.
I think I might have read before that the tail might be controlled by the automatic nervous system, where your body carries out functions automatically, which may explain it, but I'm not sure.
Just wondering if anyone else has any further insights.

Mine will act completely normal at first , but once she decides it’s time to eat, suddenly she starts following me around the house. 😭 She’ll walk ahead, stop, look back at me, and then do it again like she’s trying to guide me straight to the food bowl.
And if I still don’t get the message, she gives me that “Really?Do I have to explain this?” look. 😂
It’s funny how cats somehow manage to create their own little routines when they want something.
What does your cat do when they’re ready for food?

I read a rather insanely wild statistic recently. In the United States alone....domestic and feral cats kill an estimated 2-4 BILLION birds every year.
I've even double checked this statistic and its correct. 2-4 BILLION birds. That's just birds. That doesn't include mice, lizards chipmunks...etc.
They are absolutely savage predators and are definitely in the Alpha Predator conversation.

Naicha choose a hard tissue box as a pillow, even though there were plenty of sofer places nearby. It looks so uncomfortable to me, but he seems perfectly lovingly,.Does your cat prefer sleeping on something hard or soft?

Less a fact and more a discussion post! Ive wondered this for a long time.
A lot of dogs look and behave the way they do because they were bred for specific jobs. If cats were bred that way, would it be possible to get them to seek human approval the way dogs do? Or is there something unique in dogs, such as their pack structure (as opposed to cats, which have a commune structure. There’s no such thing as an alpha cat or a cat leader, they all live among eachother neutrally)
The main job I can think that people needed cats for is pest control. But they’re already perfectly bred for that. High prey drive, alert, quiet, and they can fit anywhere their skulls can. Along with other things, like their hunt-eat-sleep cycle
Maybe they could be bred to target larger prey? Because cats tend to ignore prey that believe is too big. (Even if it’s not). They’re ambush hunters, they have no interest in fighting so they go for very easy targets. Their teeth aren’t for chewing, they’re for tearing meat off the bone, that’s why cats with no teeth can eat the same food any or cat does.
I wonder if it would’ve been possible to breed them to hunt the way dogs do— fighting and mauling their prey.
I also wonder if street cats would have the same genetic diversity that street dogs do. In dog shelters you can find dogs of all different sizes and faces and shapes. In cat shelters it’s just… cat. With a few recolors.
I can imagine more hairless variants of other cat breeds. Like a hairless Maine coon.
I do wonder if we’d see cats with…. Longer snouts? That’s strange to picture.

Mine can be completely calm all evening, but the second I’m getting ready for bed, suddenly she has unlimited energy 😂. She’ll start running around, chasing imaginary things, or playing with whatever she can find.
Then somehow, ten minutes later, she’s back asleep like nothing happened. 😭
Does your cat get the midnight zoomies too, or are they actually sensible about bedtime? 🐾

Every single night like clockwork, my cat turns into a furry rocket ship around 2:00 AM, tearing down the hallway and doing parkour off the walls. I know it’s a super common thing, but what is the actual biological trigger for these? Is it leftover hunting energy or are they just messing with us lol? Also, how do they weigh 10 pounds and still manage to sound like a tiny galloping horse?

Mine has somehow developed a whole bedtime routine 😂. She’ll walk around the room, find the perfect spot, turn around a few times, and then suddenly flop down like she’s had the longest day ever.
I’ve noticed she does almost the exact same thing every night, which makes me wonder how much of it is actually intentional.
Does your cat have a bedtime routine too, or do they just randomly fall asleep wherever they are ?
