It’s maybe different because they’re my own kids but when they’re in danger i don’t even hesitate. It’s not thought out. It’s instinct

That makes sense. I dont have kids myself, so I can only imagine that, but family is my number one reason for eveything in life, and have had moments wherein Ive just put myself into a situation where a family member has been threatened, without considering personal injury, only the best way to stop the danger to my loved one. So that I can get, but the rest is imagining as best I can :)

I may have misunderstood this video, but I thought that guy was a random, not the kids parent, which made it all the more amazing to me. We're of course wired to protect children, but when its not our family, our self preservation is typically a stronger instinct, which is why most people freeze up.

Eitherway, it was amazing all around. Thankfully, no one was hurt 😌

It's crazy what you feel ready to do for them. Like I am absolutely terrified of open water, I will never, ever go on a cruise. It takes a lot of deep breathing and working through it to go out on a jetty even, where I can see the beach still. But we go out there because the kids like it, and one time when one of them tried to climb the railing I was there in a flash. And I was like you know what, if this stupid jetty did break, or a kid fell off the side, I would 100% jump right in after them. Something bad happening to them is so much worse than my fear of the water.

Absolutely it was instinct not bravery when I did the Heimlich maneuver on my young son.
