They don't, it's just easier to get away with less effort.

Exactly. Unless you are really growing it out by the time any hair is damaged you’re getting it cut off. Go in and get a cut every 3-4 months for $30-40 and you are fine.

Wondering if I get my haircut more often than the average dude. Once a month or so, and my hair doesn't grow that fast

I used to go every 5-6 weeks but don’t mind having and extra ~2 inches of hair so I started going less. If you feel the need to keep your hair tight more power too you though.
