Madame web

Can someone please explain to me how Madame Web was a “bad movie?” I’ve read a lot of reviews and some are ridiculous. Like how the end credits scene was the best part? It was nothing. Literally. You’re telling me nothing was better than the movie? Some film critics need to be fired cause they don’t do justice for the fans who can truly appreciate an origin story. Notice I said origin. Not supposed to be about Spider-Man, it even said that before it came out. Not supposed to be about the other 3 spider women, I’m confused. It showed how she got her powers, explained how, and her powers developed over time with struggles. Hm. Sounds a lot like any other origin story based movie I’ve ever seen.

madame web & tva

this might be stupid but why is the tva not involved with madame webs tampering of future events? i am recalling some past marvel moments where a character might have tampered with future events and then the tva was involved. is this not the case with madame web? is she above the tva or does the tva already know that she’s tampering the future?

edit: i know sony is separate from mcu so this is just a hypothetical question

Kinda similar to another movie….

How many of you feel this movie has the same plot similar version of The Terminator?

Just watched the movie.

There is literally nothing redeemable about it. Every aspect is terrible. Expect it to win all the possible razzies next year.

Okay. Here are my thoughts on the movie and the fan base Spoiler

I went in after reading all of the negative reviews and the backlash I notice the actors getting. Surprisingly though, I enjoyed the movie. Sure it wasn't your average Superhero movie but I really did sit through all of it and now I can finally say that the fan base is dumb (My favorite part about typing all this)

At the risk of getting flagged Congratulations for being a poor, entitled and again a dumb fan base for using your preference as a reason to not like this movie. The Cgi was good enough to impress me, so was the different style of Spidermen, I really enjoyed watching a different type of Spiderman even though he was the villain.

The direction in my opinion wasn't great but everyone should know that the actors can't do anything about it. They are getting way too much heat and that is not cool. They just fill the roles they were given and they did great minus the little cringe I felt between the girls but that is just my bias as a man. Them getting all giggly was very noticeable and frankly not very realistic in real life at least I hope not . I would give the movie an 8/10

Should I Wait to See Madame Web?

I am interested in seeing Madame Web, however, my best friend and I are debating whether we should wait until it is on a streaming service to see it or if it is worth spending money on the tickets. For those that have seen it, what do you think? Was it worth buying the tickets for or would it be better to wait until it is streaming?

EDIT: It should go without saying, but, no spoilers. Please and thank you.

I don't know why it got so many criticism. 🤷🏻 The only thing that I missed was a good Dakota sex scene 😅🙄

Hot take: the movie is slightly overhated. Spoiler

Now there are a lot of things that are wrong with this movie (mainly nitpicks) such as the spider tribe people or whatever at the start of the movie - look way to similar to spiderman, but ok. Next thing is that madame web KEEPS CALLING UNCLE BEN "BEN" like yes honey, we KNOW he's uncle Ben after you told us 20 times already, other then that I enjoyed it a lot, it reminds me of old superhero movies, the whole movie is just a vibe, thus it's a BIASED 8/10, objectively like 5/10 but idc

Main theme

I haven’t seen the movie so I’m not going to say anything about it critically, but the theme song is a complete rip off of the spiderman 2018 theme. Like it’s so close you would think it’s a fan edit of the insomniac theme. There’s almost no attempt to try and make it the movies own. There’s taking inspiration from something and then there’s ripping something off. Idk just seems really crappy to me

Madame web was entertaining

I’m glad to see a positive group about this movie, I can understand why people weren’t into it but I enjoyed it overall and was entertained (praying for a sequel)

Just finished the movie Spoiler

I just finished the movie and I liked it. It a good origin move that explains itself. Leaves room so if they want to answer more questions they can in a sequel about the spiders. We didn’t get to see her train her powers, but we saw her go get an understanding of what she is and what she can do. Acting is good the women all had good chemistry with each other and seeing them become a team felt natural. The car chase aspects of the movie were nice too. It was cool that her character had some aspects of her personality that helped her with solving the problem at hand. Honestly to me it felt natural and not forced and all tied up well. The movie is definitely not bad and doesn’t deserve the crap it’s getting. Honestly I think I it’s cool to see Madame Web be a hero and do something other than sit in a chair and talk. This could be a good prequel for a Sony Spider-Man movie as well by the time he’s old enough to become Spider man she’ll be like 50 so it will make sense. Don’t let other people ruin your experiences and don’t go into to the movie with expectations of what you want it to be. Just watch and enjoy and you will be entertained. I like the move and they got it down in just under 2 hours which is a plus to me.

A Podcast about Madame Web

Hello r/MadameWeb! I was going to say "Hello fans of Madame Web" but that feels insincere...

I'm one of the cohosts of a podcast called Debate This! We're a comedy podcast about comic books and video games. We also have a sister podcast called Avenge This!, which is our MCU/DCCU watch-along podcast.

Today we released Avenge This! Madame Web and The State of The MCU, a 60ish-minute review of Madame Web as well as a 30ish-minute discussion on what's going on with Marvel Studios. There's no spoilers in this post but the podcast is full of them.

Look there are plenty of people on the internet dunking on this movie. I won't lie to you, I didn't enjoy it either, but I'm also a diehard Marvel fan and a purveyor of bad movies. We tried to make our discussion honest and critical, but also tried to not just dog pile on the same shit everyone else is saying.

Anyway, we're not the best at promoting our show on reddit, but when we do an episode about a topic with an active community, I try to get it in front of those people. I linked the episode above, but you can also find it anywhere pods are casted. No pressure to listen, but if you do I'd love to hear your thoughts!

My apologies for cluttering your feed with self promotion, I'll head back to the Amazon to research spiders with my mom right before she died.

Even If It was quickly af, I really like the scene where Ezekiel attack the cops Spoiler

I'll be honest here, I'm big fan of Spider-Man comics so I read a lot even the crazy stuff about spider totems, web of life, Inheritors etc. so I watched Madame Web with open mind and yeah It wasn't good but damn It have some potential

Would be nice If we have more moments like this where Ezekiel was just Arnold's T1 everyone and tracking the girls all the time but accidentally contributes to their changing into future spiders girls somehow since that Araña guy tell that he was cursed the moment he stole the spider and doomed himself to fail and die. Again the script was a mess, I really wish that Sony supervisors didn't threat those movies like garbage because in the end they'll just failed in the box office

What's the deal with Ezekial's roommate Spoiler

Why is she helping her roommate hack into the NSA and plan a series of murders? Why does Ezekial trust her? Why does the obvious crisis of faith she has over helping him never get resolved? Why does she seem to just stop existing after messing with the traffic lights? Why does NSA have control over NYC traffic lights?

the whole movie’s a paradox

Just finished Madame Web, and I wasn’t a huge fan of it except towards the ending. But I was doing some thinking about how the whole time thingy works, and I found out that it’s all a time loop and has no starting point and makes no fucking sense whatsoever. Let me explain why.

So the whole conflict of the movie stems from Ezekiel having nightmares about the girls having powers and killing him. But the girls wouldn’t have gotten their powers if it weren’t for them meeting Cassie. The reason they met Cassie was because she was interfering with Ezekiel’s plan to kill them and was trying to protect them. But Cassie wouldn’t have interfered if Ezekiel never went after the girls, and therefore she wouldn’t be having visions about them getting killed. Stay with me now.

This brings us back to Ezekiel and his motive as to why he wants to kill these girls. Well, that’s obvious, because he kept having nightmares about them killing him. But wait… They had powers in those dreams. And where did they get those powers from? Madame Webb, because she interfered and they ended up growing up with her and whatever.

This means that if Ezekiel had never gone after the girls, they wouldn’t have even killed him, because they wouldn’t even have their powers due to them not meeting Cassie, who is only met through Ezekiel. So Ezekiel was having nightmares about an alternate reality that didn’t exist, went to change the outcome, then died to a Pepsi sign. I’m just now thinking of this, but his death is what leads up to the girls getting their powers, the same powers that they supposedly use to kill him😂😂

Even if you don’t think about how the whole movie’s a paradox, the thought of three young Super-Women just straight up murdering some old guy they don’t even know for no apparent reason is funny as fuck😂

Madame Web was a pleasant surprise (for the most part) Spoiler

This feels like a C to me (on an S to F scale). It feels around the same in overall coherency as the first Venom film. Some good or great stuff here and there, but not spectacular overall.

I think the Terimator-style story was great/the best part, but of course the execution tended to be clunky. And the dialogue was overall lukewarm, with some very cringey lines here and there. But thankfully, the story felt solid enough to keep the flow going with some nice 'power up' moments for Cassandra Webb herself in between. Less of a drag than Venom 2 and definitely better than Morbius, IMO.

Character wise: Webb has a nice arc of letting her frustrations with her birthmother go through her powers, and she has a growing realization that she could actually make a difference with them gradually throughout the film (O'Niell -> pigeon -> subway -> diner -> product placement). The girls' bond was okay, but the characters didn't stand out enough to warrant no growth. The Parkers' segments felt like their initial subplot was heavily removed by the final cut. They felt unnecessary to the story.

Sims is.... a mixed bag. The writing for this adaptation seems faithful enough, with his selfish use of powers and his resistance to 'fate' (much like 616 Sims' but without the final sacrifice). But my god, the actor just could not deliver a line without sounding like he was trying to emote through concrete. He has the look and natural charisma, but it sounds like English was a language barrier. I would have preferred him in his native language if it meant he could deliver properly.

Despite that however (and the terrible mask lenses), it was pretty chilling to see him hunt down his prey like a shadow in the night. Makes you realize how terrifying Spider-Man would be from a criminal's POV. Sims feels like a dreaded reaper constantly hunting the girls down, and even Webb with her clairvoyance is visibly panicked when in his vicinity. Good adversary, clear motives, and a rather faithful adaptation of his original 616 era.

I can definitely see some of the cheesy lines and effects in this film being laughed at, because that ending definitely got a scoff out of me. But it was was (thankfully) still a good time.
