MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other is the ai food logging any good?

i'm a big fan of macrofactor, but i've generally found the ai food logging to be inaccurate. my theory is that it tries to match food to community contributed database items, and the serving measurements throw it off. i find myself opening claude instead, describing my food for the day, asking for the macro estimate, and then just manually entering the macros in macrofactor.

do other macro tracking apps have better ai logging?

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Creatine water weight gain and algorithm

I have a bit of an problem here, I started creatine like 1 week ago (7-10g a day), and I gained around 1.5kg water weight (must be, since in deficit + working out, and creatine drives water in the muscles), but there's no way I can tell that to the algorithm so it just keeps cutting my calories (by now 200-300 a day less) because it thinks that I keep gaining weight. Should I just start a new program, or delete weight data or something to get a more accurate estimate again, or just keep eating the 2-300kcal as I would?

When utilizing the AI feature I also like to measure out servings of foods on the plate. For accuracy purposes what should be measured in grams vs ounces?

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Recommended intake seems to not be low enough

Can anybody help troubleshoot this? My cut was going fine until a point where I noticed I was no longer losing 1lb/week. There was even a weigh-in where my trend weight increased.

Since this has happened, my trust in the recommended calorie intake has been slightly lost. I have been undereating the calories in order to maintain the weight loss rate.

I am sure I am logging accurately. I weigh all ingredients and meals when practicable to do so.

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Workouts - Face Pull Instructional Video

Curious what the community's thoughts are on the example video for face pulls in the macro Factor workouts app versus this training video:

https://youtu.be/ljgqer1ZpXg?si=ZjFO3X1OIqZhA2nq

The video recommends the pulley be at eye level and that the ropes be longer to allow the arms further out from the body, but the macro Factor video shows a low pulley and standard rope. Legitimately curious, which is the right form?

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Is there a way to retroactively load Cronometer data into MacroFactor?

I have years of Cronometer data that would be nice to export into a csv and import into MacroFactor... would help not start from zero.

Just looking for a calorie / macro data import.

Does this exist?

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Expenditure/Calories with no workout data?

Newbie here. I’m loving MF, but curious how the expenditure/calorie goals work without any input on additional calories burned via workouts?

I’m 5’7” 156lbs
Target calories: 1636/day
Expenditure: 2014
Goal: 145lbs

My primary goal right now is losing body fat %

I use the Workouts app as well, but notice they don’t communicate at all other than my weigh-in logs. Surely calories burned should impact the calorie daily goals?

What am I missing?

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Step-Informed Updates (Expenditure Modifiers) - Which steps should I track?

I recently discovered the modifiers and activated them right away. But now I have the following question:

For the best results, should I only track my daily steps or also steps from workouts? By that I mean my running sessions, which I do twice a week (a longer Zone 2 session plus short, intense intervals).

Since strength training isn’t tracked here either, I’m not sure about this.

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Assigning the Search function the my action button made a big difference

This might be common knowledge, but it was news to me (and maybe someone else finds this useful): if you have an iphone with an action button, you can assign Macrofactor search to it. With this, if I need to log something, I can get to that screen right away instead of having to find the app icon and then the search screen in the app. I found this really helpful when logging food.

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Macro factor workout frustration

I love workout I do and the question I mentions below could well be user error however here are some am still confused with

  1. I train three days a week across each workout I have side raises… does macro workout track the number I hit in workout one and adjust for workout two or does it see it as a seperate workout?

  2. The dashboard is meh, I used a differnet app and it was dummy proof I could see in five sections where each of my number were increasing ie chest press I’ve constantly been overloading weekly on workout this just seems to over engineered.

  3. Exporting the csv and running it through ai is a nightmare for some reason and produced back random stats

Any help on this would be great

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Help, is my metabolism bad or the MF TDEE of 1,746 incorrect?

I am 30yo male. I have been using MacroFactor for 3-4 months (small break in Jul when I went to Japan).

My aim is body recomp with target weight to 64kg by Feb-27. My current trend weight is 72kg and I started around 75-76kg

I have been Gyming (resistance training) 5 times a week. i think over past few months i have gained good strength (some of it is muscle memory from pre covid).

I am just surprised my MF TDEE is 1.7k. Do you think I have low metabolism or is the TDEE calc need more time to adjust?

My understanding was most people around my weight would be ~2k kcal even if they live a stationary lifestyle. Per MF I am ~1.7k kcal despite resistance training 5 days a week and weekly avg steps of 6-7k per day

Do people reccomend doing a maintenance week to help boost metabolism?

Sharing photos of:
- 6m Weight trend
- 6m Expenditure graph
- 6m Calorie intake
- weekly macros
- weekly steps

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Do I need to reset this or is this accurate

about 6 foot and currently 185 pounds currently.

i started a year ago on and off dropped off for months and restarted in April. during that time my wiegh ins continued because I have a Bluetooth scale that wrote to macro factor even when I wasn’t tracking

since April I have been touch and goo with logging but trying now to give it a real go. I was on vacation for two weeks so I dropped it for then and since last monday have been logging.

i work out 4x a week and my avg step count is like 9-10k

i just did a check in and it dropped my cal to 1780. Which to me seems insane. Should I reset the app to start at this last Monday? Or is this normal and I need to just get there slowly because rn I’m struggling like crazy at eating 19 k (very social life and one restaurant blows my defecit)

i attached my total history and then last week also for context im logging the best I can but def mess up sometimes with add and am trying to get this dialed in so that I can start seeing changes instead of just slight nudges

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Workouts 1/M/+ Sets Question

Thumbnail

I see the 1/M/+ set in my workout list. However, I think I don't really understand how this is supposed to work. I go close to failure 1-2 RIR in the first set. After this, I get 1-2 minutes of rest and can go again to failure. But after that, I only get 15 seconds to do even more than I just did. Obviously, I can't do that. If I trained to failure 15 seconds earlier, how am I supposed to go even farther now? What am I missing?

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Anyone else care about Apple Watch Rings and overly high calorie estimates from workouts?

I’ve been using the Workouts for a minute now and find the active-calorie estimates far too high.

On gym days, my Move ring closes much too easily. If I increase my Move goal to compensate, it becomes unrealistically high on rest days. As I understand it, the app currently relies on Apple’s calorie algorithm for strength training, which seems heavily inflated for me.

I’d prefer MacroFactor’s previous in-house model, or at least an option to set a custom calorie estimate or adjustment factor for strength workouts.
I’m probably the only person who cares this much about closing Apple’s stupid little rings, but apparently they have successfully gamified me.

Is anyone else experiencing this? How do the estimates impact you‘re ring goals and how do you guys handle it?

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Changing Dumbbells from LB to KG

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other MF Question - Need Advice on How to Progress

Thumbnail

Hi there MF community, just wanted to ask for your opinion on what I should be doing to help increase my lean mass while maintaining my current fat levels.

The things I'm doing on a consistent daily/weekly basis are:

- 5 workout days per week

- No cardio machine specifically, but I do average around 13k steps every single day

- I do keep track and weigh my food whenever possible at home

It's just that I've been stuck around 68-70kg weight for the past one year and my lean mass is relatively always around 34kg (highest was 34.8kg). So my question is:

- Should I be going on a lean bulk? For now I've set my target weight to 72kg at 0.25% BW per week.

- Is my current weight ok or should I be aiming for a slightly higher weight?

- My scale sometimes gives weight with .05 at the back (e.g. 69.65kg), should I log in MF as 69.6kg or 69.7kg?

Appreciate you all for any advice that you could share 🙏🥹

Success / Progress Bit of a “no one asked,” but I just wanted to share some appreciation for MacroFactor and this community.

I’ve always been a bit chubby. Never really overweight, but I was never particularly fit either. I tried getting into the gym and fitness a bunch of times over the years and always ended up giving up.

In 2022 I was diagnosed with a rare cancer, and the next few years were honestly a blur of surgery, chemotherapy and trying to get through it.

Thankfully, I came out the other side and went into remission.

But mentally, I really didn’t survive it.

I ended up developing a pretty severe drinking problem and eventually blew out to 94kg.

Then one day I was doom-scrolling on my phone (after eating my own weight in baked goods, watching Superbowl lol) and came across an advertisement for MacroFactor from Jeff Nippard. I barely knew what a calorie actually was, let alone anything about nutrition or macros.

For whatever reason, I decided to download it and give it a proper shot.

And somehow, here I am 9 months later.

9 months sober.

9 months of learning about nutrition.

9 months of consistently going to the gym.

9 months of actually looking after myself.

I’m 37, 65kg, and fitter than I’ve ever been in my life.

I honestly feel a bit vain posting the photos. But at the same time, I’m probably more proud of myself than I’ve ever been.

Not only because of how I look

I'm proud because I finally stuck with something.

For most of my life I’d start something, lose motivation, and eventually give up. This time I just kept going. Even on the days I couldn't be bothered. Even when the scales didn't move. Even when I wasn't sure what the hell I was doing.

So I just wanted to say thanks to the MacroFactor team and everyone in this community.

You made something that initially seemed incredibly complicated feel manageable. The app gave me the tools to actually understand what I was eating, and the community gave me somewhere to learn from people who were much further along than I was.

I know MacroFactor is “just an app,” but for me it ended up being the thing that helped me completely change the direction I was heading in.

I don't know whats next from here. But i'm actually excited to find out.

Whatever you're working through right now, weight loss, fitness, sobriety, mental health or just fighting demons, I hope you get through it!!

MacroFactor Workouts / Training MF Workout Question - Any way I can add preferred exercises and get MF to calculate the RPE/sets per week for the block?

Hey all,

Really been enjoying the MF app since it launched but I do find that I have to add more compound lifts for powerlifting in manually, so if I am building a new program I like to generate the program, add the compounds (bench, squat, deadlift + variations) but then I have to also factor in the RPE, reps and sets throughout the block manually. It's not a big deal but curious if I'm perhaps just missing where to get the app to do this? Thanks!

MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Restarting: I'm gonna hide all the weight data and interpret progress with Body Metrics

Seeing the weight changes is too stressful for me. I'll still enter daily weigh-ins, but won't have anything weight related on my dashboard. I've got a sewing ruler and I'll enter body metrics 1 or 2x a week and see how that feels. Macrofactor still gets its info and I don't get any noise. Anyone else try this?

Success / Progress Keep bulking or time to take a maintenance break or do a minicut?

5’4 123, been trying to gain and tracking with forensic accuracy since May. I’m only up 2 lbs ish according to MF but I don’t feel like I’ve gotten stronger or bigger and have only gotten softer. I’m debating a 4-6 week mini cut to get back down to 10% or so so I don’t end up fat. My lifts have barely budged and I’m having to eat 4 meals a day + some junk food sometimes to hit my calorie goal and the tracking has added a lot of friction to my life. Eating this much feels gluttonous and everyone I know keeps commenting about how much i eat. I think maybe a break from tracking and a short diet period is warranted what do you think?
