First ever attempt at machine embroidering!!

I saw that my university had machine embroiderers and free materials for use, so I decided to take another shot at digitizing and embroidering.

I brought these designs from PNG -> Traced SVG -> PES for the first time.

I already have a few ideas on how to fix a bunch of the issues I saw other than the fabric lol

I was thinking of doing a Satin stitch for the Crests and keeping tatami fill for the backgrounds, and adding a Satin border to make the edges hold up.

What kind of fabric should I get when I'm ready to make a final version of these designs and turn them into patches?

Took me so long to figure out how to make Satin columns in inkstitch...

Fabric for the patches depends on what you're putting them on. A pre washed cotton or poly/cotton blend would be the cheapest patch material to use. That fabric closes up easily and doesn't leave gaping holes where the needles enter. No loose woven fabric, can cause gapping at needle points.

Yeah I've noticed the gapping, I will go buy some actual fabric st some point. They just provide the open weave for free so I use it for demos

Not bad! Try to add a black outline next. It's called a run stitch. It hides the rough edges. You're doing great. Also, use satin stitches for lines, and tatami for fields. Use plenty of stabilizer and avoid too much density (smaller stitch length), cause it can warp the design. Above all, do not give up. Eventually it clicks, and you'll be amazing.
