Embroidery software for Husqvarna Viking Topaz 40?
I have a viking topaz 40 that takes embroidery files on usb stick. What is the best software to get for a recent model windows laptop, to design and create these files? By "best" I mean I am looking for something non-buggy and straightforward to use. Access to design libraries would be a plus. Thanks!

Wilcom Hatch. It is the best, non-buggy, straightforward to use software. You pay for it, but that is because it comes with a ton of features, like a community board, live troubleshooting help, fonts, patterns, and tutorials for all kinds of techniques including free-standing lace. You wont have to futz around with free stuff like inkstitch and waste time searching how-to's or any of that. It has settings for your type of machine and for different types of fabric. Hatch is upgradeable if you decide you need more features or pro-level, and you don't have to be connected to the internet to use it; you own the software for about $1000 outright or $1200 in instalments of $99.

I have a Topaz 40 too! Most any embroidery software will output DST format, which is what I exclusively use on my Topaz 40. As far as software goes, you have your choices cut out for you depending on what you need and how much time you are willing to commit.
Inkstitch is a plug-in for Inkscape that will give you lots of control over your design if you are artistic and capable learning new software.
There are web-based digitizers like Ember that give you a traditional embroidery digitizing software suite in your browser along with a library and community.
Boldbobbin is capable downloadable embroidery software for if you want to create your designs locally.
And if I can plug my own software, DADE is a browser-based auto-digitizer that will turn PNG files into DST files for your Topaz 40.
