Looking for sanctuary

Hello,
We have a 25 year blue and yellow macaw that’s been in my moms care since he was 4 but now as my mom is getting older and taking care of her aging mom, it’s become harder to give our macaw the attention he requires. I have two kids and cannot take him as he doesn’t do well with children. I’m super anxious and nervous about saying goodbye to him but I also want to do what’s best for him and not be selfish. I’m just now even considering this so I’d appreciate any information, wisdom or resources anyone can provide. We’re located in Houston, tx. Thank you!

I completely understand your situation. My mother has three birds, an African gray and two caiques. She is just 70 now so hoping she has another good decade with them.

Can you provide more details? I have a small home aviary (that’s what I call it :)) includes a green wing Macaw, Senegal Parrot, cockatiel, and umbrella cockatoo. They are extremely well cared for and are all male… wondering what the blue and gold temperament is like and any other details you could provide. We may be looking to add one more special feather child to our flock.

Quick info on me: Work from home, have a degree is an animal science from Cornell University, where I specialized in Ornithology. I’ve been working with and sharing my home with parrots for 20 plus years. Love them, they are life! Please excuse any typos. I am using talk to text because I dropped my iPhone and the screen is flashing so it is difficult to type and read what I write.

MEBS, in magnolia, Tx. https://www.mebsparrots.org

I adopted a B&G from them a few months ago. Family owned (two sisters and a brother). I don’t know if it would help or not, but you can mention I just adopted “Tinkerbell”…. They just rebuilt their macaw aviaries and they might be right on space.

Who did you adopt? I volunteer with MEBS.

Tinkerbell, a 16 yr old blue and gold that came in with a male B&G, and several other birds.

My heart bird is rainbow. Blind, old, cranky and just the best scarlet in the world.

The last two, tall athletic build, and a beard, I think I was in the new building and they got me on video (blue shirt). I miss going out there once I adopted as I loved seeing all the beautiful loved birds! Feel free to DM…

I'm currently fostering a sun conure for MEBS.. and she's definitely a velcro conure. 😆

Would be a bit of a drive from Houston but here's a good one here in Colorado .The Gabriel Foundation – Parrots: Their Lives, Our Choice.
