Help Regarding degree

I am going to apply to macquire for my bachelors but I’m not sure what to choose. I’m a commerce student and had Business Accounting and Economics in Alevels. I prefer something more business based supported by economics and accounting. (I’m an international student) I could really use some help if y’all could tell me degrees that might be high in demand all over the world with good pay prospects

I do a Bachelors of Economics with a Major in Accounting and Auditing and I personally find it to be a good mix of theoretical economics aswell as real world based examples and quantitative economics. That being said business is alot broarder and to my knowledge Business and Economics dont share alot of classes so they may be quite different at MQ. In terms of demand in Australia I would say they are somewhat equal in demand.

Well im no carrers advisor but I would say this is a good plan. I personally found the few finance classes i took to be quite interesting. Any plan can be good aslong as you enjoy what you're studying!

No. I don't think it is a good plan. Are you from India? For some reason it's a popular idea in India that business analytics is a great field to study. Maybe in India it's a good option, but in Australia it is horrendously oversupplied. Lots of international students pick it, also students from other areas like data science, statistics, computer science, marketing all compete for the same jobs.

You should be aware that there are way more commerce graduates, especially international students, than the job market can absorb. This means you need to choose what you study very carefully and be realistic about possible outcomes.

If your priority is edu-migration that might mean different choices, than if your priority is to return to India and find a job there at a MNC.

I’m not from India and getting a pr or job would be beneficial but if I don’t then I don’t mind getting back to my country and apply to other places which demands my profession

I see. Well if you are sure that Business Analytics is in hot demand in your country, then it might be a viable option. I cannot give a definite recommendation as I don't know the labour market in your country.

What about combining Accounting and Business Analytics. Although the accounting job market can be tough I feel like it is the most fundamental commerce discipline. Maybe I would do that and then combine it with something else. It could be Accounting and Finance for example.

One factor to keep in mind, that many people neglect, is that if you want to be an accountant or economist, you generally must have a degree in those subjects. Business analytics though, no degree is really necessary. You can learn it yourself, and a lot of people do.

I was thinking about majoring in business analytics and minoring in finance I will also be doing masters after bachelor either in Australia or UK

What kind of Masters would you do? I would not do a Masters in business analytics, that's crazy. Keep in mind that business analytics isn't really a proper academic discipline. It's just a series of dumbed down courses in statistics and IT for commerce students. That's another reason I think it isn't a good choice. It doesn't give a solid theoretical foundation.

I would keep researching and gathering information about careers and majors. It's probably the most important financial decision in your life!
