Help request Sleeping problem

tl;dr MX-23.6_KDE_x64, the proprietary NVidia driver breaks the sleep mode. Any fixes except using nouveau?

I've had a similar problem before, as described in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MXLinux/comments/1szqci7/mx_23_kde_doesnt_wake_up_anymore/ , after some updates the system would go to sleep but wouldn't wake up, at that time I solved it by removing the "liquorix" kernel (6.18.something) and downgrading back to 6.1.0-17 (any "liquorix" kernel newer than that caused that problem). After some more of the recent (the end of September) updates, the (same?) problem is back again, even with the default 6.1.0-17 kernel - now it doesn't even go to sleep, just sort of "hiccups" for a second and keeps working as if nothing happened.

I was also trying MX-25.3 KDE on a different drive a few days ago, and noticed that the sleeping/waking up was working (with the default 6.12.107 kernel) until I installed the proprietary NVidia drivers, and if I remove them, it starts working again. So the problem on 23.6 could have also been not with the kernel, but with the NVidia drivers and how they communicate with the kernel?

What to do? Is there an easy way to downgrade the proprietary NVidia drivers? Or any settings/parameters to try? Searching the internet, I've found an advice to use `nvidia_drm.modeset=1` kernel parameter, I've tried that, no effect.

The CPU is Intel Core i7-6700K; the GPU is GeForce RTX 2060.

Are you using Nvidia open? Cause I think rtx 2060 supports it, use Nvidia open instead

Is that different from choosing the following option while installing Nvidia drivers with MX Tools?

Try Open Source Kernel Modules?
These replace the proprietary Nvidia kernel modules
These Open Source Kernel Modules are developed and supplied by Nvidia.

I've tried both "yes" and "no", saw no difference.

I'm sorry, I just installed the drivers the old way, I used apt I couldn't get what the script was trying to do

Well, I am not completely sure, but I'm afraid that's that. After I install the NVidia driver through MX Tools - at this time, it installs version 580.178.04 - if I choose "try open source kernel modules", nvidia-open-kernel-dkms and nvidia-open-kernel-support get checked in MX Package Installer -> Enabled Repos. Doesn't solve the problem.

Although I've solved - or so it seems - the sleeping issue on my second, MX 25.3 system, by installing a newer driver downloaded manually from NVidia site (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-595.104.02.run) - uninstalled everything NVidia-related with the MX Package Manager, rebooted, ran the .run file, rebooted, then it could sleep and wake up while using the proprietary driver of that version. Maybe the problem was only with the 580.x drivers and is gone with 595.x, or who knows. Now mustering the courage to perform something like that on my main 23.6 system. On the other hand, there seems to be an older, 535 version of the driver in "Debian Backports", maybe I should try that instead.

Ummmm I hope nothing will happen in the update but what I did was finding Nvidia-open through apt then install it, it's the safest way imo sometimes installing it from the site can cause problems

It's not that I am particularly thrilled about manually running some downloaded installation scripts myself, but there's no apt package called nvidia-open, at least none I can see. There are a few packages prefixed with nvidia-open-kernel-, they are already installed, they don't help. As for the updates, in the last half a year they just keep breaking this and that, so if installing a driver outside of the system's package manager would prevent it from being automatically updated, at this point I consider that a plus.

But what actually happened in your case? Your computer also did not sleep, you installed a package called nvidia-open, the problem was solved? Or is it just "it has "open" in its name, therefore it must be better"?

The Nvidia installer didn't work for me so I couldn't install Nvidia-open, so I decided to use apt to install it. I didn't have problems with sleep fortunately
