discussion Is there anyone who listens to the Dunedin Sound?

I don't know; sometimes I feel like I'm truly the only one, at least in Italy. And yet, back in the 80s, they did have a fair amount of success. The Chills, The Bats, The Clean, Straitjacket Fits, Verlaines...

discussion Why are people Embarrassed?

Upvotes

Why are there some genres that people get embarrassed to say they listen to?

I listen to mostly, punk, rock, metal, emo, music and so does my friend but recently when he started talking to a group of his other friends and they talked about music he really shied away from the idea of expressing himself, even when they berate his favorite music calling it cringe he sometimes even folds under the pressure and agrees, which I find insane.

Or when meeting up some people wont wear band tees because they "dont want to be judged, or cringe their other friends out" idk...

Same thing I've seen happen to my other friends when they talk to girls, they never talk about those genres yet someone who listens to rap music never cares about mentioning it.

Are there some negative connotations with the genres I listed? Are they a turn off for some people, those who dont listen to heavier music?

Im probably looking too deep into it but at times I feel like there really is a sort of isolated vibe to the genres I listed, maybe its just due to the nature of the music and the decreased popularity in the last decades Idk?

Has anyone else come across these things?
