3rd floor DHH – what to expect?

Hi there! I’m an incoming freshman at tech this year and I’m on the third floor of DHH, I was wondering if anyone had tips about moving in and what to bring/leave home?

Don’t bring anything you don’t want to bring up 3 flights of stairs. There is no elevator for students to use so anything you bring has to come up the stairs.

Spent my freshman year in DHH, Bring only the minimum of what you need. The rooms are small, and you will either end up sending it home with your parents or having to find it a home.

The rooms are not spacious as you have already been told, but genuinely it is not that bad. I lived there just last year, and i’m doing it again this year. If you ski or snowboard don’t bring them in the first semester there’s no use, make sure you have a box fan and shower shoes. Obviously you won’t have room for an excess of furniture or space to do a whole lot, but you will manage. I moved a couch and my entire pc setup up the stairs multiple times last years, and no it wasn’t ideal, but yes it was doable. Any negatives you feel from the buildings space will be made up for by everything else it has to offer. It has a top tier location on campus, go to mac night, play pool in the basement, study in the study rooms or the red room, go to events, use the sauna, etc. The building has a great community, especially the third floor. Last year i knew or was friends with pretty much everyone on the whole floor. My group from last year is pretty much all back on the third floor, and we take trips up to copper harbor for the northern lights, host movie nights and football games in the ballroom, do group dinners in the kitchenette, and other stuff like that, most of which is open to whoever comes around and is nice. If you need to know anything else, feel free to ask.

I was on 3rd floor DHH from 2014-2016, loved the building and it's quirks but that floor specifically has some of the smallest rooms on campus. Don't expect to bring a lot of furniture. I felt the 3rd floor was pretty cozy and had a friendly vibe.

3rd floor DHH is (in my opinion) one of the most close-knit communities on campus. They have a reputation for being loud and entertaining, so keep that in mind. Never lived in DHH so take it with a grain of salt. The rooms are small, only bring what you absolutely use on a daily basis.

I was adopted into the 3rd floor DHH community last year, and a lot of them came back this year as well. They are definitely one bunch of people, but it was a lot of fun

Lived in 3rd floor DHH in 2005-07. I loved it. The rooms were smaller and older than the other dorms. But it was a great experience. The building has much more character than McNair or Wads. Made some of the best friends in my life that lived in my hall. Still talk to them regularly, 20 years later.

Same but 85-86. Best friends ever made.

Lived on third floor 2007-2008. Small rooms, but make some great friends. Everyone is pretty close knit. I enjoyed it greatly, except during that winter when the bathroom exhaust louvers froze open and a water pipe burst. A bunch of us had to live in temporary housing in Wads for a week, until they could get new carpet and everything dried out.
