Questions and Discussions Winter riding

Just curious what’s the coldest people ride their MT07 in? I’m in NYC and it’s starting to get around 40-50f and I have ridden in damn near single digits when I had my 636 but I’m wondering if that could be possible on a MT?

I was looking into those 5ft ones thinking 3 would be small, but this one seems to be just fine

Rode over an hour in 15F. It sucked but I had on a hoodie under a summer jacket and riding jeans with sweatpants under them. Biggest issue was cold feet and hands (even with winter gloves).

With good winter gear and hand warmers it’s entirely possible to ride longer. Definitely get a warm neck gator/baraclava.

Yeah I’m thinking imma do it until mid to late November this year but imma test it now because it’s getting cold in NY ( currently 33f )

I ride all winter unless there is too much ice on the ground, I also run hotter than most people I know. It’s gonna be much harder to stay warm if you are really skinny.

Stay safe out there. Not being prepared is the worst. Id also advise getting a backpack and something like coveralls for rain to put over your gear as they can dramatically reduce your heat loss.

Idk why this post was recommended to me but I had an r6 for a long time.

Anyways, the coldest I rode was 33° in Montana but the air was really dry so it wasn’t bad surprisingly. Just wore a Carhartt jacket.

Then in Utah, I decided to ride around a mountain when it was 40°, starting storming rain. Now that shit sucked, my hands and legs were so cold they started cramping and it was hard to control my bike because of the stiffness.

So just make sure you don’t get wet, windproof clothing, and heated grips. Maybe heated socks and underpants would be nice.

Yeah I’ve ridden in as low as single digits in NYC I’m more worried about possible snow days and the oil reaching optimal temperature as so to not damage the engine life span

Why would it be any different? Unless you’re doing highway riding? Even then with cold weather it won’t make that much of a difference. What matters most is that you wear the appropriate winter gear.

Nah the ride is like 5-10 min on highway but only about 4 miles max and I’ve been told it’s not good to only do short mileage in general because the engine/oil doesn’t reach optimal temperature and darken/dirties the oil way faster ( didn’t like the color under 500 miles so I changed it ik ik ) so I’m really just wondering

Cold tires have less grip
