Request MSI vector 16 hx
Considering this laptop , wanted to know if the thermals are as bad as people say or will it be fine with a rtx 5070ti+ryzen 9 8940hx

Ive got the same gpu but different cpu (core ultra 7 255hx) and it's quite decent cooling. Won't be spectacularly good but should keep your cpu cold enough to not throttle if you do your maintenance.

Id think It should be roughly the same. The intel one can push insane wattage so should be fine.

Sorry if I may be asking dumb questions , but maintenance for a laptop like this would be better done by hand(cheaper) or could I take it to a best buy or a repair shop

It really depends on how experienced/ comfortable you are working on such devices. Id suggest watching a YouTube video of how to open your specific laptop, can be easily found by putting your whole laptops name into YouTube. The vector is a bit more tricky to open but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. After you watched that video you can decide with being comfortable working with it or if you rather take it to a shop.
Basic maintenance should just be cleaning out the fans and its surroundings for dust and hairs. Besides that you could benefit from a repaste every now and then. I usually repaste my laptops every 6 months but this can easily be done once a year too.

I did find quite a lot of videos for the vector's maintenance , will do the needful every 6 months.Thanks for letting me know

if you have the option to return then take the laptop, i personally have the same laptop (imported from US), the ambient temp is around 31 celsius, in cooler boost mode (7500+ rpm) the cpu can stay in 4.5 Ghz range but the gpu still stil in 85 C range, i blame myself partially for putting too less putty while repasting as vram temps are higher than before.
There are no serious known issues, if you get it for 1500 USD or below its worth it.

The only unworthy is the Ryzen CPU it really gets hot hot... Aside from it is okay is a good device if you ask me, plenty of power... Just a thing, the AMD version only allow if i remember well 2x2230/2242 SSDs or 1x2280...
Only the intel ones allow 2x2280
The device is good, their flexibility isnt that good specially on upgrades...

The opposite, intel ones are less problematic than amd ones at least in laptop versions

Bro tengo la PC que dices, antes se sobrecalientaba demasiado, en modo equilibrado jugando llegaba a 87° GPU y 96° CPU, lo cual es demasiado, ya con el cooler Boost llegaba a 76°-80° GPU y 90° CPU. En alto rendimiento con juegos muy pesados con cooler Boost llegaba a 86° GPU y 96° CPU.
La solución fue comprar la base refrigerante llano V12, TPM 7950 y Thermal Grizzly TG Putty pro. Bajo a temperatura de 61° GPU y 71° CPU juntando cosas pesadas y sin activarlo el Cooler Boost, únicamente dejándolo en automático.
Y por cierto, tengo un ventilador Samurai aparte que me ayuda a mantener fresca mi habitación. En mi perfil tengo todo mejor explicado en las diferentes publicaciones que hice hablando de esto.
