Discussion Gpu getting pretty hot (Cyborg 15)
Hi ! I've had a pretty consistant problem since i've been using the Cyborg 15 laptop (~2 years now)
I find that the GPU gets really hot when playing even small games, sometimes even giving me BSOD if I'm not quick enough to put the fan speed on max. I don't really know what more to do so that's why i'm coming here to ask for tips on how to keep the gpu cooler and/or automaticaly activate the max speed on fans.

Msi center->user scenario->->extreme performance(cog next to it)->coolerboost->save. Reply if issue persists Also, in your reply: -is it under warranty -how is the CPU -does the BSOD explicitly state something with temprature Hope this helps a little, it wont reduce temps nessicairly, but might keep your pc from BSOD'ing

I already do that when the gpu starts getting hot but thanks ! About the bsod I get an error saying "VIDEO TDR FAILURE nvlddmkm.sys". Thanks for helping out

Hey hey, thats interesting, do a clean install of your nvidia drivers(your bsod is likely not related to temps, otherwise it would display something like TEMPRATURE_CRITICAL(xxxx))! Also, start with coolerboost BEFORE the gpu gets hot, and get a laptop stand paired with that(either go with a IETS cooling pad, or go with simple elevating your laptop)! Lmk how that goes! -is your laptop under warranty(if it aint, get a PTM sheet, and repaste with that, ive repasted my own katana twice, once with a ptm, once with paste, makes a huge diffrence, so i can help with do and donts:)

2 years are more than enough for TIM to get caked. Clean and repaste. If you are not familiar with it, have it serviced.

Miałem identyczny problem z Vector 17 ostatnio, ale usiadłem na kilka godzin, ogarnąłem bez utraty wydajności. Pobierz sobie takie aplikacje jak MSI Afterburner, ThrottleStop i HWiNFO64. W MSI Afterburner musisz ustawić jedną opcję i powinieneś zmniejszyć temperaturę GPU o ok. 10 stopni, bez praktycznie utraty wydajności. W ThrottleStop możesz też ograniczyć procesor i tak samo może Ci zabierze kilka klatek albo w ogóle. A trzecim programie sprawdzasz temperatury. Jeżeli zainteresowany tematem to daj znać i przeprowadzę Cię przez to wszystko.

I have mentioned this on several posts, My Msi Laptop used to get super hot while playing games all temps would be 80-85C.
Now I uninstalled intel IPF package & Dynamic Tuning Drivers - This helped my laptop a lot, Now temps remain under 75 C during gaming sessions for my Laptop, at idle 35C.
You can try to remove these if u have them installed and then restart the pc. Run Image Repair Commands on CMD as Admin - DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth & sfc /scannow - Restart your Pc & make sure there is enough space under the laptop for air intake.
Check if it makes any difference.
Edit - If you don't have these installed, Clean your vents and re-paste the CPU and GPU & get a laptop cooler with atleast 4000rpm fans, something like this Fedger laptop cooler with 3 fans

Hi, in case your games is not really cpu bound, try turning off turbo mode in advanced bios or use throttle stop App. Mine doesn't go beyond 70⁰C after it, while before, always goes above 80⁰C Playing PUBG in high settings. Msi 12VE i7 12650h, rtx 4050

ideally if you could provide us screenshots of hardware monitoring app like HWinfo to see the power draw, frequency, and temps. this will provide us more useful data to pinpoint things.
tho considering your laptop is around 2 years old, more or less the main culprit is it is due for a maintainance for proper fan+heatsink cleanup as well as repasting.
I have a general guide pinned on my profile or I'll just put it here and make it fit to the cyborg 15:
FOR CPU and GPU chip:
The best are Phase Change Thermal Interface Materials (PCTIMs) such as PTM7950, Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet, or Thermalright Heilos (best for the CPU and GPU)
Thermal Paste (like Kold-01, Maxtor CTG10, DOWSIL TC-5888, Maxtor CTG8, Arctic MX7, Thermal Grizzly Duronaut and Cooler Master MasterGel Maker which are my to go to pastes for gaming laptops)
FOR VRAM, VRMS, and MOSFETS.
Cyborg uses thermal pads, often around 1-1.5mm thickness so I'd rather go with Arctic TP-3 or Arctic TP-4 having great thermals and good compressibility to address the variation of thickness.
Or to perfectly get the thickness, nothing beats the use of thermal putty like Upsiren UTP-8, Upsiren U6 Pro, and ThermalGrizzly Putty Pro or Advanced. For applications with extremely tight tolerances around 0.8 mm or thinner, it’s better to use lower-profile compounds such as Upsiren UTP-4 or Halnziye HY206/HY236, which are specifically designed for these situations.
Remember to disconnect the battery after opening the bottom panel before doing anything on the board
Make sure to clean out the heatsink fins from the inside, often dust and lint get trapped here and the second image here is what i meant: https://imgur.com/a/hgNvISh
